This is probably the most ideal situation with regards to China having to retract any support. If we wait until they do something stupid and China is forced to become neutral, NK will be exposed and be forced to back down.

The only positive outcome that I can see from this from the perspective of the US is playing the waiting game, laying a trap and allowing NK to fukk up and fall into it.

I'm no way a war monger and in fact may even go as far as not caring that NK has a nuclear weapon.

We basically live in world where any country can do whatever they want without facing any consequences.

China build bases in disputed territory and land.
Russia forcefully annexes land from it's neighbor.
N. Korean shoots ICBMs over other countries.
Turkey shoots down Russian aircraft
India solders throws rocks at PLA troops.

As long as the end game means country A throws Nukes at country B, nobody is going to do shyt.

Pretty sure China could take Taiwan and nothing would happen. No one can afford to sanction China because they are the world center of trade now, and China has weaponry to light up world.

Japan has no choice but to tolerate this. After WWII, they basically neutered themselves into only having a self-defense military in their constitution. they've been our sidecar all these years because we've been a level-headed, secure economic and military powerhouse....until Nov 2016

Not sure what Japan can do. Status of their military aside, if they go at Kim, Kim lights up Seoul, China and Russia steps in, and the U.S. joins the fray soon after. Massive casualties within moments and WW3 might as well pop off.

I wouldn't be surprised if NK has contingencies for Japan as well.

Perhaps this is what he wants. The easiest way to create American nationalism, and get rid of the importation of goods, is to eliminate the ability to import those goods. If those countries are bombed to hell, then we have no choice but to buy American.
