You can't defeat groups like al-Shabaab with war and bullets. America has been making that error for the past few decades in the Gulf/Horn/Latin America and it only enflames these groups.

The solution has been known. Like with Germany and Japan after WW2, you create and integrate thriving economies in these countries. Instead of sending in soldiers into Somalia to battle, EA needs to be finding ways to cooperate with a competent Somali government to bring prosperity there. May take decades but its a way better approach than antagonism and fighting bullet with bullet.

As a Muslim I'm hurt by these atrocities. This is not accepted amongst the Muslim masses. Idk why these Somali brothers chose to do this in the name of our religion, nor do I understand why hate groups in Europe kill Muslims in the name of their religion. They're both equally sickening, but I'm particularly disheartened by these kenya attacks. I know a lot of Somali brothers/sisters and the stories they have about growing up are unlike any other place I've heard of.
Most of us should be thankful we have a functioning govt that enforces laws, clean water and a certain standard of life.
I pray for the victims and their families. No one should be killed while shopping at a mall or simply attending class.

The somali border disputes are a minor thing.

How is it minor? Somalia went into war with Ethiopia in the 70's to take back land that used to belong to them before colonization (Ogaden, and they would've won if Russia didn't step in) and they would've did the same in Kenya. Northern Kenya and Eastern Ethiopia belongs to Somalis and they call it "Greater Somalia". Kenyans, Somalis, Ethiopians, all got people displaced because of colonization, but Somalia got the shorter end of the stick when it came to land in the post-colonial periods.

Invade? You goofy clown. Do you realiaze that after the international pressure put on Somali due to pirating a few years a go they began taking speed boats into Kenya and kidnapping tourists. Do you realise that Somali terrorists have attacked not only Kenya but in Uganda and east Africa in the last few years. Somali terrorists bombed a US embassy in 98 killed hundreds of Kenyans. Then later tried to take down a plane. We never went into their country until they brazenly began the kidnappings. that couldn't go unanswered due to tourism being a major part of the economy. We basically had to respond. Due to African union venture into Somalia theirs is some type of stability in areas and this is the thanks we get.

I understand and want to apologise to @Poitier for going hard at each other but I really want them to understand, even if there is a greater somali argument they need to understand it's not at the top of the list in somali priority because there's so much more going on.

Also the second narrative about Kenya invading somalia they need to understand what's been going on to cause that. They don't know how Al shabaab in somalia did the Westgate attack, the piracy and the kidnappings. Kenya didn't invade somalia, they sent troupes to try and neutralise Al shabaab and everything they've been doing and the piracy because repercussions can be so great if it's not done. This isn't somalia fighting back. This is Al shabaab a branch of Al qaeda.
One of the gunmen used to go to masjid musa lectures in mombasa. He also spoke of jihad and created extremist. This attack had nothing to do with the greater somalia argument. What's happening is Al shabaab has been doing so much damage in the region and want to continue doing so without resistance, if you resist then they send people to somewhere where innocent civilians are and kill as retaliation. That's why it bothers me that people are turning this into a see kenya invaded somalia and It was kenyas fault as though we invaded to colonize or something.

If you lived in the area and visited and saw how sparse that area is and how the clans and herdsmen go back and forth unrestricted because there is no blockage at the border you'd see its not something being fought over.
When somalia had the civil war hundreds of thousands if not more fled and came to kenya, first the camps and then further in. Kenya has been second home to somalis and they are like our brothers. The only government somali has was set up In the north. The rest of the country is no man's land with people who are victimised by warlords and militia. When kenya went in they tried to flush these guys out and free the people. Peace In somalia means peace in the region. But their civil war in now going 25 years.

Exactly I don't understand the mentality of any Somali that defends shabab. They killed their own people with no regard but now they are national hero's defending the nation.

Seriously, you can look at pictures of lives snuffed young like that, and then advocate doing the same thing to MORE people?

Look at the worst 20-30 wars and massacres and genocidal acts of the 20th century. How many of them had anything whatsoever to do with Islam? If you could even kill 1,000,000,000 Muslims, which would never happen, all that would result is more and more killing. And then when the killing of Muslims was done, you'd have a bunch of soul-dead killers walking the Earth who would likely find a new target.

And even if every Muslim on Earth (98% of whom never would dream of doing shyt like this) just plain never existed, you'd still have Communists, Colonialists, Supremacists, Nationalists, Mafiosas, Gangbangers, Greedy People, Power Hungry People...and anyone else who latches on to the human need for power in order to kill the people who get in their way.

Give up power-lust and violence brehs. It's the only way. Any other supposed "solution" only perpetuates the problem.
