Huge B.J. Upton fan. One of the most talented players in the Baseball. I love this guy. Just needed a change of scenery.

melky got a 2 year contract, and melky has been the better player over the last 2 seasons.

shyt, melky had a higher WAR in half a season less this year :manny:

Melky has had better stats, but BJ is perceived as a better player, not to mention many believe BJ has untapped potential(he won't reach it, but :manny: ).

Melky is better at getting on base and slugging, however BJ will hit you more HR's; play better defense at a premium position, steal you 10+ more bases.
Last but not least, Melky is coming off a PED cloud, so there was a buyer beware w/ him.

Market value is generally around $5M per WAR.

Upton has averaged 3.7 WAR over the last five years.

Good deal.

:usure:

Upton's WAR the past 3 seasons: 2.6, 2.8, 1.0. Average of 2.1.

The past 5 seasons: 2.6, 2.8, 1.0, 0.8, 3.1. Average of 2.06.

Fangraphs and Baseball Reference are very different, not to mention BR makes note of DWAR and FG uses UZR(which is more accurate).

Yeah, and Fangraphs says Upton is the better defensive player which outside of his arm I :childplease: at.

I think Baseball Reference does a much better job of calculating WAR. Do people really think Upton is a 5 WAR guy? I mean, really.

rWar > fWAR. I think it's well-known that FG calculates more on how a player should do, than how they actually did.

That's really only true for pitchers, because they use xFIP in their WAR calculations...which I think is misguided.

Yeah...

I mean, I use FG before I draft for my fantasy teams but other than that I can't really stand the site. Most of the articles look like they're written by 16 yr. olds. So I may be biased.

But even if you go on ESPN and look up Upton's numbers, they have his WAR last season at 2.1. I think as far as batters BR is more reliable. I esp. don't like how FG uses UZR instead of Plus/Minus in their WAR calculations.

To each his own, though. :yeshrug:

Losing Bourn will hurt if he can't get a leadoff man but otherwise Upton>>>Bourn talent wise and with Atlanta production wise. Two players I wanted this year was Mayo and Upton on my two teams. Didn't get Mayo but got Bourn.
