Great thread, but I dunno about posting all these old street tales online. I would only hear these old No Limit tales when I was a kid amongst the old heads or over blunts with my nikkaz now as an adult. Part of the NL mystique is that you'd only hear these tales through the grapevine mostly.
Nothing like NL tales tho, that was quite possibly the most gangsta, street, all the way official and live rap label ever. If Pac had signed to NL there's no way P would've let that Vegas shyt with Orlando Anderson happen. That would've been a job for V90 and nem lol....

If I'm not mistaken, it's a label practice to get gold and platinum certifications. You only have to ship a certain amount of units to retailers to get a certification.
Soundscan is actually a measure of units that were actually sold. There's a lot of artists that have multi-platinum certifications, but actually shipped those units vs. actually selling them. It's misleading because people see "certified platinum" and think an album sold 1 million copies.

Fiend is one of my fathers favorite rappers ever but I never could get into him. I think the best is Mac. I just think his two albums are excellent and him being on that label held him back.
Mac's next album Proverbs was supposed to come out in 2000/01
he was locked up in 2000 just when his two biggest hits (Wobble Wobble, He Did That) were out. dude could have blown up bigtime, he was no biter like P, had his own lane/style, had lots of deep profound stuff next to the usual bragadoccio NL style, and all the tools to make it

The Takeover
Despite Master P appearing on the first issue of XXL, their relationship went sour around '99. XXL started throwing shots at No Limit and it reached it's peak when XXL reviewed an advanced copy of Master P's Ghetto Postage that only had 11 songs. If I'm not mistaken, they gave the album an "M" rating (might've been an "S", which was their lowest rating). They ended issuing a retraction and apologized for prematurely reviewing the album. They never reviewed the retail.
The No Limit camp was involved in an altercation after some guys tried to jump Snoop. This was confirmed by Mystikal, but he didn't give any specifics aside from they handled it.
Mia X didn't have a contract with No Limit. According to her, P treated her like he treated C and Silkk in terms of how he put her on.
Master P claimed he ghostwrote Mystikal's "Shake It Fast" and cited Mystikal's use of "boonapalist" (also the title of a song off Master P's Only God Can Judge Me) as proof.
Master P's Only God Can Judge was originally supposed to be a Greatest Hits compilation featuring 8 new songs.
Master P and Jermaine Dupri had begun calloborating in 1999. P was supposed to be on JD's 2001 album Instructions. Either the song was scrapped or never materialized after the rift between the two when Master P claimed Romeo and Bow Wow were best friends.
It was alleged that Pimp C dissed No Limit on UGK's "Let Me See It".

Fiend, Mac, Mystikal and Mia had a tight relationship with KLC. I think KLC and Fiend did a great job on the Street Life album. Mo B dikk did great on Ghetto D and Tru 2 Da Game. Craig B always brought the heat for Mia X and Kane&Abel. Carlos saved his best beats for his Ghetto Commission group. O'Dell had some fire beats on Da Crime Family and for the smaller acts (Gambinos, Prime Suspects, Skull Duggery)

Mystikal was on these Jive slave deals (see UGK, Too Short) since 95, when Big Boy Rec. boss Charles Temple sold his ass out to those jews. Couldn't get out of that contract, so P and his affiliates handled business and made a deal that Mystikal's albums will appear on NL/Jive, with Jive providing little besides the album budget and NL doing all the work. Meanwhile he put highly-popular Mystikal on every NL album to sell em
