I think I read the format that P gave all his artist when they did their album.

I think Serv-On stated that P stated that his artist, do a song for their mama (which almost every artist that dropped a song had a song dedicated to their mama) a song about a love or something, a club song, and another song about R.I.P someone. If I can recall that was the format so that's about 4-5 songs P wanted on the album, Serv-On or whoever I was listening to telling the story said P really let you do the rest of the album how you wanted to.

Just give him those 4-5 songs and you had creative freedom to do whatever. P really let them boys do them, especially around the time that the artist got a chance to put out a 2nd album.
And for some, the smoking song.

Yeah Snoop was there, this was around the time Top Dogg came out. Also people don't realize how tall the Miller Boyz are but Mac is tall as hell too.

When I heard C went and got an apt in calliope I knew he had officially lost it. Another thing that caused a rift between P & C was magic's contract.

Tru records was supposed to be C's but it was the equivalent of Wayne being CEO of young money= cool to shout it out but the paperwork says different. Tru records was under the umbrella of NL but P was the real CEO of that too.

That beef was around the time C shot into the club & maybe a few months before that kid they say he allegedly killed.

I remember a lot of people saying Mac's "best friends" was about BG because they were tight at one time & Bg's "he used to be a man" off of checkmate was about Mac.

That song BG did came after Mac was already locked up. All them dudes from both camps knew each other. N.O ain't that damn big. Mia & Mannie were like brother & sister and went 2 HS together.

A prime NL/CMR tour would have been dope. To me of all the artists NL ever signed, Curren$y is probably doing the best and he was "new NL". He carved out a nice lane for himself.

Also P did a symposium a few years back and he said the Tank doggs album DID get finished as well as other unreleased projects.

Priority folded and he went to universal so I don't know who is in control of his catalog of released and unlreleased material. Fiend also said the same thing before too, there is a lot of unreleased material from that 97-99 era.

Mac was working on his 3rd album, serv-on, tank doggs, Snoop redid the last meal album so it's unreleased sessions with that.

Mystikal turned in a different album to jive but he still has tracks for the same album he was gonna release on NL(let's get ready)and probably tons of other material we probably will never hear.

Serious fukk snoop for his stint at priority. Dude was the absolute WOAT.

If anyone remembers they tried to bring back the label at one point. But somebody had the genius idea of letting snoop run it.

All this dude did was release old albums and slap his fukking name all over it.

Look at that disrespectful shyt.

It sucks too because pretty much all those old no limit albums are long out of print and expensive as fukk to buy used unless you get lucky.

I've been trying to complete my cd collection but so many albums are way too rare/expensive now.

Holmes, I’ve been scoring old no limit albums on ebay @ the 16.00 - 22.00 range. The only one so far that consistantly has been in the 30.00 range is the Ghetto commission album.

Yeah I remember seeing that for certain priority re releases with Snoop's name on it. I feel very indifferent about him as a rapper. I only had brief interactions with him during his NL days and he was cool. I remember him doing an interview(bet) saying Post Pac death that he was in financial hell with DR folding, cars were getting repo'd and things of that nature. Even to this day he is always giving P shoutouts.

At the time snoop signed he was still one of the hottest rappers out and P made a brilliant move signing him because that notoriety legitimized NL and in return P let dude turn in 2 albums in a less than a year and walk away with the % of his publishing(Suge still controlled some) and showed him how to be a boss which transitioned him into his own label with doggystyle records. P could've have easily took a piece of that deal but he let snoop eat. And what did Snoop do in return? He basically raped the eastsidaz after two platinum albums and tray dee pulled up on him and had dude running for his life.

I know a lot of people blame Lyor Cohen for the birth of the 360 deal BUT to me the biggest catalyst for that was P. People quickly forget that when he moved back to NO from richmond, he was signing everybody in uptown. CMR was local and very clickish. He pulled all those dudes together and put them on. The deal he got with priority was beyond unprecedented. Dude was making poor quality movies in 96-97(I'm bout it) to standing shoulder to shoulder with guys like cohen, and Russell Simmons.

I know baby was pissed about the alleged blockage of his own distribution deal with priority but even his universal deal wouldn't have happened if not for P. Like @shopthatwrecks said, that UPC code trick was a mothafukka & if not for that priority would not have came crawling to P. He played those dudes heavy.

To bring that point home, guys like cohen and other execs were salty as fukk with P business model of TREATING HIS ARTISTS RIGHT!!! Execs at the time despised P for that. In contrast Juvenile said many times when they would go to award shows Baby & Slim didn't want them associating with other artists and execs out of fear that the would get the game. Shytty industry is designed to keep artists in the red.

Soon as piracy started to affect sales, most major labels implemented that policy of minimal advances, large percentages of sales and shows going to labels off the top. Even though albums sales will never go back retro, fans still pay to see artists so the labels get that. From my brother experiences and me learning the industry, seeing so many people touch an artist money before they see a dime is depressing.

Point is, P reign at the top was similar to Marlo's reign in the wire. Short but powerful. P is a real stand up dude and I wish he release his vault and a real autobiography.

Amen to that breh

No matter how much everyone (myself included) rags about Master P about biting other artists and lying about stuff to big himself/his companies up, dude GAVE BACK and took care of his artists, paid the dudes he collaborated with (see Eddie Griffin). I bet guys like BBTP, Magic and Steady Mobb'n realized that later on, how good of a deal they did have at NL. Meanwhile the Williams Bros. raped the Hot Boys financially and they get more respect for building up CMR. MP chose to rape the real villains: the music industry and its shady labels (Priority, Universal)
