Under the RIAA guidelines, a double album only needs to ship 250K to qualify for gold. Now, had Crime Family shipped 750K, it would have a platinum certification.

There was a site that used to report the soundscan numbers that included what albums did like a decade after release... I'll try to dig up some actual numbers

In 2005, Soundscan would post the sales of 10 older albums based on a theme (artist, label, etc) at the bottom of their weekly sales chart. That's when we found out alotta older albums didn't really sell. It was called "Off The Radar."

Here's an example below from 2005 (who would have really thought Foxy's debut sold more than Kim's over 9 years)
