Late night update on QB Julian Sayin

Let’s get caught up on a wild Friday.

First, congrats on Caleb Downs. What a massive win for the program. He’s different. He’s special. He’s going to be an incredible player in Columbus.

Back to Julian Sayin…

I was told on Wednesday that Sayin was likely entering the Transfer Portal now instead of waiting until spring ball wrapped up. I even tipped off our Alabama site, so that they were ready for the news that I was told was likely coming Thursday or Friday. If I knew, clearly college staffs had this information.

Knowing he was set to enter the Transfer Portal, I was told early this morning by multiple sources that Ohio State wanted to take Sayin if he truly had interest in the Buckeyes.. They were then informed by outside sources that he did have plenty of interest in Ohio State, especially with Bill O’Brien coming over. Once he entered the portal, I’m told initial conversations took place and they went well.

However, nothing to do with Sayin’s talent, there was some clear hesitation this afternoon from Ryan Day related to the current quarterback room and the impact Sayin would have on the group. If you bring in Sayin, you are surely looking at attrition at the position. I’m not saying they all leave, but there’s a possibility a few guys could choose to play elsewhere if he’s added to the roster. It's just the reality of the situation. For Sayin, he's an alpha. He’s elite. He's not afraid of competiton. All that said, he's going to be tough to beat out at the position, maybe not year one but definitely in year two.

So, where do things stand now?

On Saturday, I’m told the Ohio State staff is going to get together and make a final decision regarding Sayin. I still believe that if they decide to take him and push for him, he’ll end up a Buckeye. I know that there are plenty of people in Ohio State’s offices that want him and are pushing for that, but there is one man that makes the final call.

But what if Ohio State decides to pass on the elite signal-caller?

At that point, I believe USC would quickly become the favorite to land him. I’m told Lincoln Riley showed a ton of interest in Sayin on Friday since he entered the portal and USC made it clear that he’s coveted by their staff. In fact, if things do play out that way with Ohio State passing, I’ll likely change my Crystal Ball to the Trojans. I said from the start that I expected an Ohio State - USC battle and I still see it that way.

Just wanted you all aware of the current situation.

From BK
regards to Ohio State and will they recruit him now that he is in the portal. From what I am hearing today I expect the Buckeyes to move forward with Sayin.
