The real reason was because she had been a twitter follower of, and been followed by, Visceral's art director for Dead Space 2.

Her dog causes her game to get cracked, so she tweets the relatively interesting story. Her twitter buddy basically does her a solid, because he's in the position to be able to, simple as that...

Folks was hating like he gave her special treatment, but it was just one of those "once in a lifetime" events where the right person saw the right thing at the right time.

Ian Milham drew a cool sketch and had the team sign her a new copy.

People thought there were false motives at play, when it's far more likely that Visceral just loves Dead Space that much, and because they could empathize...they reach out to their community pretty well.

I remember getting the first Dead Space for free, 3 days earlier than everyone else, because I was a part of a viral promotion for the game (No Known Survivors) that helped set up the universe and story.

Hell, just for that, I received an envelope with inkblots (which would later end up in the game during the opening of Dead Space 2) that had clues revealing the first trailer's release.
