yeah bro I didn't know if you completed your masters yet or not, but I remember talking with one of my buds who's in administration straight up asked if I knew anyone with an advanced degree in Math. The Job started off at like 65-70k a year with full benefits....

It's teaching though :patrice:

this was possibly obama's best SOTU speech

im not saying it will in any way please a card carrying communist, but as far as american politics go, he hit the center-left wing points he needed while not pissing off the dumbass registered independents who ultimately just end up voting for one of the two established parties even though they think they are so hardcore. for progressives, he did mention some moderate use of executive powers, though he was not hitting republicans as hard as i would like, but i have long since learned to not expect that. i also like the frankness about obamacare bipartisanship. i think republicans wont even bother opposing obamacare in any significant way going forward. this looks like a turning point. i rate this speech an A in terms of political impact for his most important legislation.

the first republican response was much better than the swagless jindal and rubio, but it was devoid of substance. she seems like a nicer version of a middle aged republican woman with a down syndrome son, but that alone is not enough to make me think republicans have any answers for the serious questions of our times. i rate her speech a C+

speech was supposed to focus on inequality and the willingness to drop the pen on the executive order, Instead I hear typical political jargon...
This isn't "paying an ounce of attention to news" like you're claiming. This is the common man's apathy dressed up in the educated man's rhetoric. He specifically stated exactly what will be done with the executive order before the speech and basically went in there and focused on what he can do, said what should be done, and then veered towards foreign policy. It was well done. You're letting the reality of his limitations prevent you from actually judging the speech properly. You @Broletariat and others are all doing the same thing. You're aiming your ire at the guy who is saying what needs to be done instead of people that didn't clap when he mentioned gun control, wage equality, raising the minimum wage, etc. If he had full control of both chambers this exactly the speech you would've wanted him to give. (Though obviously I wanted him to say full employment like the article I posted earlier).

These responses are horrible BTW. But they're great because they're not saying shyt so they do no harm to the GOP brand.

Can't speak for anybody else, but it's not "ire" so much as hopelessness.

The fact is, political realities color how people view things. Obama could've given the greatest speech in human history, but it still doesn't change the fact that he'll never get anything worthwhile through Congress. I don't blame Obama for the current state of American politics, but it's hard to really care about, much less enthusiastic about a speech when we all know Congress is gridlocked, and the chances of anything substantial passing are infinitesimal. I mean we're lucky to even get a budget these days.

They couldn't find any decent rising stars to throw out there. That woman cut the equivalent of a garbage, mid-2000s backyard wrestling promo.
My boy who works for the RNC explained it to me. That's their "compassionate conservative" speech. They're giving 4. she's supposed to be the one to warm America's hearts. I'm about to go watch TV, I'm not about to watch Rand and all these guys talk nonsense.

Pres. Obama started the speech stating what he has done buying some credibility for his speech. That is part of the reason his speech was effective in the first place.
