Huh. First instinct was right, how about that...

:gladbron:

:damn:

Are the elite up for contract renewal?

I'm actually pretty interested to see how they handle this. When I saw Jay and Gedo team up with the BCOGs, my first instinct was to think that Jay was always a member of Tama's faction (since New Year's Dash, basically), but was sent as a mole to both further delegitimize Omega as leader by "rejecting" his offer of Bullet Club membership and beating him for the US Title, and then destabilize CHAOS by openly telling Okada not to be comfortable with him after joining and then helping Gedo betray him. This is...less interesting, but still far, far more engrossing than NJPW booking has been in a while.

That's a HUGE number for a show that didn't have a card up until a week ago :whoo: They are fukking teflon in Tokyo (booking 3 shows in a row is the only thing they can't pull off yet, but that's minor), this was a total heat check by them and it was all net :wow:

This Dome show won't have the big marquee matchups like in the last couple of years - Tana going for the belt against Kenny is big, but it's not Tana/Okada or Naito/Okada big in terms of kayfabe and status/hierarchy at the time those matches happened- but it will have the most dedicated build up in a LONG ass time. If they get 35k paid again or if they get to 40k, it will be Gedo's biggest success as a booker since the 07-09 rebuild, imo.

The build to this and the last Long Beach show are their way of saying, "we're so hot we don't even need to try to get good numbers."

Might also be a safety net to protect the Bullet Club brand in case Rhodes/Bucks/Page/Omega all jump in January 2019. Page supposedly already turned down a WWE deal.

And at the same time, the build to WK is the complete opposite. Any other year, Okada vs White would've been built in 8 weeks, mostly through press conferences and 1 in ring segment; now, it's a legit angle that involves a lot of people and is treated like a big deal. I still don't care about the match itself, but it's undeniable Gedo it's actually making a legit effort to make the feud worth a damn and mean something.

Like I said, they threw a heat check and it worked. Now they move on to the real big show knowing they are putting on a (kayfabe/status) weaker card than usual and doing everything they can to make it feel like an important show. So far, so good in the gamble they took.
