Crazy I was saying to myself we're overdue to lose an artist to violence soon. Just the nature of culture unfortunately. Hate it had to be him. It always reminds of a Tash line from Tha Liks,

Bouncin' off the walls is just my nikkaz havin' fun
With all these weak nikkaz, why the fukk we lose Pun?

I feel the same way. Don't want to see anyone taken out of here but theres a few I'd trade for Nipsey

gotta be business shyt mixed with gang politics cuz 60's been squashing all the old beefs
Exactly, to clip someone well known like that in broad daylight means something wasn't right, and some form of business gone wrong is usually the culprit.

The changes required to put this violence to an end can't happen from the top down, which is what a non-violence movement spearheaded by artists would be. It would be nothing more than a symbolic - but ultimately ephemeral - gesture in the wake of a tragic death that won't have any lasting impact on the violence in our communities. The change needs to come from the bottom, as it always has. There needs to be a fundamental intervention in the lives of black people that addresses the core reasons this violence continues: endemic poverty that leaves few opportunities for economic development; inadequate funding for schools that neither equip our children with sufficient skills to enter the workforce nor imparts upon them a capacity for critical thinking and the building blocks to become entrepreneurs who do the hiring; inadequate diets and nutritional deficiency that contributes to poor health, both of body and mind. Basically, the endeavors Nipsey was pursuing before his death.

A non-violence movement from rappers is a deflection, imo. :francis:

I agree with you on grassroots organizing being better suited to address these issues long term. The whole buy the block/ hood movement rappers and Marshawn Lynch is doing can be a stepping ton to wider community involvement. It can start around a discussion of violence and move into other areas including addressing the roots of all these issues.
