How is this at all similar to the Troy Ave situation? Unlike Nipsey, who received adulation in the state of California and from many people across the country, Troy Ave isn't respected by most people in NY. He's viewed by most as a low rent provocateur who was little more than a 50 cent knockoff. And the dude who allegedly shot him, Taxstone, was an up-and-coming media personality who really is about that life and whose trajectory was halted because of Troy Ave's foolishness.

’m just mad we lost one of the few rap nikkas that was solid and a beacon and conductor of positive change for us as people. Worst part is Nip feels like the last of his kind, how many nikkas you see coming in the rap game with a Malcolm X chain piece and incorporating those ideals in their music? Making lyrical motivational and relatable music without approaching you from a preachy and condescending angle? Not being an owned pawn and showing and leading entrepreneurship by example? Creating opportunity for young black people? Fighting gentrification? Not subscribing to weirdo artsy tropes? Rap nikkas either junkies, c00ns, have no substance, social media addicts, or think life amounts to being in the strip club with non black women. In the midst of the rise of thot rap and nonsense rap, Nip stood solid.

We should've championed this brother, man. I was fan. A lot of people were...but it was mostly weak. Like " salute he's a solid, he's doing his thing". Naw we should've held him up higher. He should've been the example for every rapper in this game.

Listening to his music these past 2 days. It never struck me just how positive and uplifting it was...smh
