So as if this wasn’t already obvious we’re never gonna get another mario kart. I don’t see why they didn’t just continue updating this with characters and tracks like smash.

they're working out ideas, the continued sales just gives them more time to work out their usual "nintendo level" ideas
edit: and with the recent news about F Zero, Nintendo is probably thinking of "grand" ideas for that while MK8D is still selling well.

they usually only make 1 MK per gen/system, anyway.
If you count MK Live Circuit, this is the first time they've released 2 MK games on the same system in the same console cycle.

Well you said make a new game every new console cycle, they didn’t make a new game this cycle they ported one.
If they had ported mario galaxy you wouldn’t count that as thee mario game for the switch
