From an optics standpoint this isn't a good take, even for her base. It's like she's saying what she thinks people want to hear: "this country has never been racist" comes off as cheap pandering. I don't think most whites regardless of political affiliation would say this country has never been racist, they would at most say racism is dead or spout off something about reverse racism . She's cooked and is just wasting airtime at this point.

The whole idea behind trumps use of the southern strategy and slogan of “make America great again” campaign was to be a dog whistle for “make America openly racist again.” Now, this Indian-American woman is trying to pander to that same voter base by claiming America was never racist. She was raised by both of her Indian parents. The racism they experienced is why they gave her the Anglo middle name “Nikki” in a futile effort to combat some of the racism. A country that not only has a history or racism, but is so racist that you can experience racism based on your name alone.
