A lot of people don't realize it, but Nike has not been doing good the last few years.

Buying expensive everyday casual attire isn't exactly what people want right now.
That's not true. Take a look at the prices of OC, Hoka, Brooks, etc..... They are not cheaper than non signature Nike's.

The issue with Nike is two fold, extreme over reliance on legacy designs, and refusal to meet customer demand with specific designs and colors.

Nike turned their backs on their customers and are hurting because the customers then went elsewhere.

I'm thinking of brands like ONON. A lot of people rocking those at the gym. Even if some of their shoes are on the high side, their "tech" seems to be better. That is a big chunk of potential Nike customers.

Stock price was at $16 last year and now it's nearly $50.

Whatever the reason is, Nike is basically facing competition that isn't as complacent in the past.

When "rubber meets the road" I think Nike was trying to get by on too much flash and not enough practicality. If you're going to make your products expensive, it needs to be worth the price and does more than look good.

I think really, at the end of the day, nobody wants to look like the "sucker" - especially at a place like the gym.

-Flooded the market with classics they used to use to bring attention to the brand. People would buy “consolation” shoes after striking out on “rare” pairs. Now there are so many rare pairs, they are sitting.

-No innovation and relying on past and outdated tech causing athletes to start considering competitor brands.

-Drove the stock price down due to trying to switch to a mostly online market and pulling shoes from big chains.

-Allowed competitors to increase market share.
Hottest shoes on the market right now from their competitors are early 2000's mesh metallic runners from Asics to New balance and low profile 70's shoes like the sambas. Yet y'all keep saying innovation is why people leaving to go to other companies. When there are still selling retros. :dead:

You described peak saturation as a fault but then make a conclusion about something else being the basis of decline. The competitors are not more innovative they are new alternatives to a lot of people. Same thing that killed supreme killed Nike hype. Saturation. People don't actually want more sought after shoes mass produced as much as they claim. They still want to feel like they got exclusivity. Nike had always limited supply artificially until recently.

Multiple factors breh.

NIKE basketball used to be the go to for athletes and now if you look at performance reviews, they’re getting trashed and athletes are looking elsewhere.

Your reference of retro shoes is a lifestyle brand issue and a separate division. Both divisions are suffering for different reasons at the same time.

Yes they used to lead basketball. But that's not what drove their business down. Not falling off in performance basketball.... For the first time in generations Nike is not the coolest sneaker brand.

That's all. The driving force was in lifestyle not performance and this is the same for every other brand spare for shyt like Salomon and Hooka. And Salomon has already peaked and declined. Everyone else is selling retros but we keep talking about innovation or lack. Tastes change

How is everyone else selling retros when a lot of these companies don't even have the extension history that Nike does to pull from older lines?

I also wouldn't say that Nike has had artificially low supply until recently. You're letting COVID fool you into thinking that a lot of those supply were low stock. The resell hype was there to here to help move them or else they would have been sitting otherwise like they are now. You even had retailers profiting from it and even resorting to hiding raffle releases behind purchasing in store products.

Let's not forget that a lot of Kobe's were collecting dust on the shelves until his unfortunate death that helped fuel the hype behind them.

A top 10 list isn’t going to change your mind and even you know that. We know how these things go when posts ask for something.

Hoka, Hoka and ASICS are popular shoe brands out there and they don’t have to depend on retros because they don’t have the history to do it.

It’s a reason why they’re bringing back to the old CEO as the plan that the previous regime tried backfired.

By taking product out of the store and trying to get people to buy on online, all they did was let other competitors eat into their market share and get more product on the shelves.

You really gotta expand your shoe offering outside of thinking of only retros.
