I never understood the plan Nike had of limiting shoes people wanted, not selling them in the major chains, and then allowing resellers to hoard everything straight from the supply chain.

How you expect to gain or maintain marketshare by making sure customers can't buy the shoes they want? :dahell:

When that happened I started looking at other brands I used to would never consider in the past. Now I wear Brooks and Adidas as my main everyday shoes, not Nikes.

That California Lifestyle ...
A lot of people don't realize it, but Nike has not been doing good the last few years.

Buying expensive everyday casual attire isn't exactly what people want right now.

Havent clothing/shoe brands in general been doing worse,
Yup. This is while other brands though that are coming up and offer cheaper alternatives are doing good.

Nike was great because they had real simple design and comfortable attire. Can rock a simple t-shirt with a simple Swoosh that didn't run $50.

$40 new arrival?

Imagine if you have kids, you really want to spend $30 on their shirts?

Additionally, another big aspect is the NBA has been kind of mid.

The last run that generated any kind of buzz was Steph in 2022 and that's an Under Armour athlete.

Caitlin Clark is basically their biggest hope right now, but you really see sneaker culture vibing with that?

-Flooded the market with classics they used to use to bring attention to the brand. People would buy “consolation” shoes after striking out on “rare” pairs. Now there are so many rare pairs, they are sitting.

-No innovation and relying on past and outdated tech causing athletes to start considering competitor brands.

-Drove the stock price down due to trying to switch to a mostly online market and pulling shoes from big chains.

-Allowed competitors to increase market share.
These two are definitely tied in together due to cause and effect.

New Balance became prominent in the mainstream and cool in the last decade (I know it's been around for ages and popular in certain places), the emergence of Under Armour. Maybe in the big picture, sneaker culture has run it's course.
