The fact that us as Americans care about the plight of fukking Tibet, the kurds, israel, various Asian groups, the entire middle East, but THIS THREAD is the only thing I've heard of this conflict, is an embarrassment.
We're Black, so it's not all that strange

@RadaMillz -

White supremacists created Nigeria and kept it together so they could extract resources (cocoa, palm oil, tin, rubber, natural gas, oil) from it. They've long favoured the North in order for their companies like Royal Dutch-Shell and Total to steal and pollute Nigeria. Why is such a devilish arrangement acceptable to you, who I imagine is against white supremacy, or other black peoples on this planet who desire freedom?

Exactly. Which is why I rock with the new Ooni. He always brings up the Berlin conference carving up these countries with no fukks given to who lives within the borders

Exactly. The origins of Nigeria are illegitimate. The present day formation of Nigeria, based on the 1999 constitution is illegitimate since it was created by the military dictator Abdulsalami Abubakar with NO CONSENT from Nigeria's peoples. At the very least, Nigeria should be re-negotitiated. At the very most, peoples who want to leave Nigeria should be able to.

My issue is that it's bit late for it. We have to make it work or the chaos in separating may be irreparable

This video is disgusting, but I vote for unification to remain. The state of Biafra isn't gonna magically solve every problem in Igbo Land. They would still have to deal with rampant corruption, shytty roads, spotty electricity, etc. There's plenty of money flowing through the Southeast, but it's going straight into the pockets of corruption politicians and businessmen. Biafra won't change that.

Have you ever considered that Igboland's infrastructure issues result from being part of Nigeria?
:mjpls:
Also, why should Igbos remain in Nigeria given that their government is specifically targeted us?

Above the fray.
This is a lighter topic..literally and figuratively. I apologize in advance if anybody finds it patronizing.

Ethnic origin clearly plays a large part in Nigerian identity. In African culture generally, but I'd guess moreso in countries where there has been political or violent conflict along tribal lines. From speaking to people from various countries and multiple ethnic groups, I've been told that even the concept of marrying person from different tribe is relatively new......and was frowned upon 3 generations ago.

If this is true, how/why do I see so many inter-racial marriages among African men and specifically Nigerian men.
Have literally run into 10 continental African men that I knew when I was younger with white wives in last 4 years or so. If marrying someone not from your tribe would raise eyebrows (in some circles) why does marrying a White person seem to be gaining so much traction?

I made this comment/observation while back but not in the relationship context. My observation was why can't some Africans coexist in their country of origin and yet when they arrive in Western industrialized multi-cultural countries (mostly US and UK), they can coexist and go on about their lives with other people who are the total opposite of what they are culturally whether it is Black Americans, white Americans, Latinos, Asians in America. Pakistanis other Asians from the sub continent, Caribbeans, whites in the UK.

The response was that in their country of origin there is direct competition for resources/power whether economic or political. Continental Africans are not directly competing or can't compete with the other populations/groups of these western industrialized countries.

Regarding what you've noted,I think that they are moving from a struggling unstable situation to a functioning stable country. Survival mode attitudes will be more relaxed in the latter. This is true for immigrants from most countries in the United States.

I've used the example to American born friends that in parts of the developing world.....daily life is like skating UPHILL with a weight vest....living in the developed countries....it's like skating on a flat surface with nothing on your back.

There's a certain amount of assimilation that takes places for immigrants of most cultures and they become minorities who have to live, work, study with people of other backgrounds. when they move to the West.

I just learned about this by reading the Bennett Omula story, the doctor that discovered CTE

He was born during the 1st civil war, and now 30 or so years later this is going on. Wow.

Igbos was looked down on is what he stated in his book
