Black Americans can not grasp that we are American, as well. When others that aren’t from here talk bad about America (both black and white) they are talking about our black asses too. That has been admitted by others who aren’t from here on this very forum.

As black americans we dont like to admit that we benefit from american imperialism and our military industrial complex. black americans do not benefit as much cacs but we still benefit and have a better overall standard of living than other blacks in the diaspora because of it and at their expense. We wear blood diamonds and dont care how they got here. We rock jordans and dont care about how they are made. We buy the latest video games, tvs, and iphones and dont care about the atrocities that go on in the mineral mines in Africa needed to produce those things. Thats america. We live in a bubble of ignorance called american exceptionalism. Black folks are not immune to it.

No black american is willing to give up these things and our way of life for some global good. black people are indeed americans and we gotta accept the good and bad of that. I think Thomas Sowell is the only black conservative who made a name for himself somewhat removed from that and despite that he still has a substantial amount of rhetoric, writing, and talks doing that.

Sowell has actually spent the last 50 years or so vehemently attacking the Black community, his writings and work are having some recent resurgence due to Youtube for sure.

That's sort of a cover - think about it like this - he's a public intellectual that's on the faculty of Stanford and tenured. The assumption automatically is that he's a brilliant guy and his books and writings have been pretty popular, and are written in a fairly academic and soft-way, so they're not seen as polemics.

But he hasn't published any peer-reviewed work in over 30 years, because it wouldn't stand up to professional scrutiny, and he exclusively listens to right-wing AM radio for all of his news. In reality, he's effectively a Black copy of Milton Friedman and a huge chunk of his theories have proven to be failures, untenable, or flat out rejected over time, instead of *just* supporting the idea that Black people are dumber than white people inherently, he says "Black culture."

He's mostly ignored by prominent political economists and sociologists, though some of his work had had some scathing reviews.

It's a bit of both - he provides their racist believes a "rational cover."
