NieR New Project officially titled NieR Automata
Official title revealed in the latest Weekly Famitsu.
NieR New Project, Square Enix’s upcoming Platinum Games-developed PlayStation 4 action game, is officially titled NieR Automata, the latest issue of Famitsu reveals.
The game is set on a devastated Earth and depicts the violent battle between machine life forms and the humans’ android unit, “Yorha.” Akihiko Yoshida did the character design. On an image board published in the magazine, a hero-looking “Yorha No. 2 Type B” character is shown equipped with a katana and great sword. With the “Pod” support system, long distance attacks are also possible.
NieR Automata director Yoko Taro also leads a stage play called YoRHa Ver 1.1, whose story sounds very similar to that of Automata‘s.
Here’s a brief synopsis of YoRHa:
“Yorha,” the distant future. Earth was invaded by machine life forms and humanity fled to the moon. On a defense base satellite orbiting the planet, Androids have been fighting the invadoers in place of humans.
During the 14th Drop Operation, the new-type android unit “Yorha” troop is attacked unexpectedly and only four remain (No. 2, No. 4, No. 16, and NO. 21).
The machine life forms charge at them, but they are saved by the older androids who survived on Earth, “Resistance.” The members of Yorha and Resistance join forces in a do-or-die battle against the machine life forms…

I'm not a fan of those enemy designs but the combat and graphics look fantastic. I'm definitely gonna keep my eye on this one. The animations definitely have the platinum games feel.
