And that's how I'm judging him. He's a smart-dumb, without-a-pulse "experimental" director.

:heh:

I love it how folk use canon artists to prop up less-talented versions as if avant-garde is always on a higher level. I already posted my thoughts on why I didn't like it -

You're trying too hard to sound "Smart" yourself. It's an experimental/genre busting film about models. It was pretty spot on.

Film was cool - wasn't what I expected and didn't know where it was going but that was a good thing. Soundtrack was :ohlawd:

Was there an after credits sequence?

I went to the first ever screening for The Neon Demon, and even there the audience reaction was mixed. I personally thought it was boring in parts and dragged on a bit too much, but that's NWR style I guess. I'll have to see it again just to check if they added or cut anything out, but my first reaction was that it was a 5/10. If Refn attempted to show more of the underbelly of LA and the fashion world, with better dialogue and characters, then it could be taken more seriously. At times, people felt like they were portraying a bad parody of model stereotypes than actually giving the viewer a look into that lifestyle. It would've also been cool/disturbing if he chronicled the main characters descent into madness ("the neon demon" taking over) better, kinda similar to Black Swan. But that's just me :yeshrug:

Movie was better than I expected, great visuals, etc. but the beginning of the movie was basically the real life version of this...

This shyt was god awful. He's 0-2 post Drive. It's a poor man's Black Swan morphed with Rob Zombie's "Lords of Salem". I still love Pusher I and 3 the best.
I respect your opinion as you clearly have watched his older films and also comparing it to black swan and that zombie flick..lol
I liked it ..

I enjoyed this film. Wasn't great or anything but the visuals and music is always on point with him. Film kinda jumps the shark towards the end, but I think that was the point :ld:
