I don't think people are getting sick of football at all but the last couple weeks have had so many fukking blowouts because either
A) Key players are injured
or
B) Teams are tanking
It's been mostly unwatchable, playoffs can't come soon enough.
What all these added standalone slots like TNF, Black Friday, Saturday games, etc have exposed is a long standing issue that goes back to the 16 game era : by the time you reach mid-November half the league is a terrible product. Between injuries, backup QBs, teams that didn't live up to expectations, teams with lame duck coaches that are about to be canned, etc
That was a lot easier to hide when you could only watch your local team, SNF/MNF and ESPN highlights, now it's such an obvious elephant in the room even someone like Brady commented on it last season.
That's one of the few realistic solutions I've seen them contemplate tinkering with, overhauling preparation would at least attempt to address an aspect of the bad football they can control.
