People talking bout the NBA.

For starters nobody ever gave a fukk about divisions in the NBA. It was Magic/Bird then Mike then, to a lesser degree, his kids.

Secondly, expanding the season and playoffs is what creates NBA like problems. The more games and spots the less urgency for teams to play their best week in and week out. You go to 18 games and half the conference in the playoffs why should a top team take the regular season seriously? Especially if they are in an ass division? Everything will be about being healthy in the playoffs. fukk round get NFL load management.
Nah I remember when divisions mattered, it didn't start changing until mid-00s or so. It used to mean something to win your division in the NBA. Their playoffs used to also reward division winners with higher seeds, you don't remember that?

But I do agree that expanding the postseason is more costly. The 7-seed is useless, these mf's have no shot. It's a needless money grab and the 17th game is a needless money grab...

OUTLINER shyt HAPPENS
EVERY ONCE IN A BLUE MOON...

YOU DONT MAKE KNEE JERK DECISIONS
TO COUNTER THEM.

YOULL NEVER SEE 14 WIN
TEAMS BATTLE FOR THE DIVISION AGAIN
IN YOUR LIFETIME

Its not knee jerk. It should never be a possibility. There is no logical reason to have guaranteed playoff spots let alone home games just because the other 3 squads you grouped with suck. You want divisions to matter ok give em a playoff spot. They can go on the road if they record isnt good enough. Who does that hurt?

Two things:

1. He said team owners aren't feeling it so hopefully it doesn't come to pass. Divisions have to mean something in football;

2. If they make any change, it needs to go back to the old format and get rid of the 7-seeds. In 5 years of doing this shyt, the 7-seed is 1-9----->with the only victory being Green Bay beating Dallas last year...

They won and then still lost in the Divisional Round...

It's been a cool trial run but thru 5 years the 7 is losing 90% of games, an astronomically bad percentage. Cut out the 7-seed, give the 2-seed the bye back, and while you're at it go back to 16 games...

But I'm already asking too much 🤣...
It's all a tv product at the end of the day. The 7 seed is just a way to fill wild card weekend over 3 days and have a MNF playoff game

@CHICAGO what year did the NBA start seeding by record only? I distinctly remember when I was younger NBA used to have the Top 3 seeds in each conference, division winners...

Just to illustrate, if this proposed change applied to this year, seeding would've been:

1 Kansas City
2 Buffalo
3 Baltimore
4 Los Angeles
5 Houston
6 Pittsburgh
7 Denver

1 Detroit
2 Philadelphia
3 Minnesota
4 Washington
5 Green Bay
6 Tampa Bay
7 Los Angeles

The entire 3 thru 7 seeds would change in the NFC. Houston and LA would've switched places in the AFC. This is stupid...

Winning your division should fukking matter...
It does...you got in the playoffs. Why isnt that enough?

One seed getting a bye is alright to me, gives an ultimate incentive for being the best team in your conference.
If the #7 seed is being dominated by #2 seed yearly, you at least have the benefit of getting an extra team in the playoffs and the fight for it, the revenue of the game plus give the #2 seed a benefit for the regular season.
Going to an 18 season is going to be a bad decision. Another week of late season games with backup QBs/players with teams hit with injuries

You're right, but the answer to that, if you HAVE to have a MNF game, just do one Wild Card game on Saturday, two on Sunday, one on Monday...

Personally we were all fine with the two Wild Card games on Saturday, two on Sunday. I hate this money grab shyt 😆...

I mean mf's didn't brag about it, but it mattered because you could get home court advantage based on it. And NBA rivalries were stronger in generations past, because of divisions...

They killed the divisions, started seeding by record only, and that killed the rivalries and playoff incentives...

Because I'm an NFL traditionalist 🤣 🤣...

I really have no other reason...

They've said they're also expanding roster size, when they expand to 18 games. They didn't put a number on it yet but the thought is your active roster will be around 60 players...

Totally agree the 18-game season is a TERRIBLE idea.

I think its overly simplistic to suggest taking away certain rewards for divisions weakened NBA rivalries. And it is revision to suggest it ever mattered like that. What was the big divisional rivalry driving interest in 05, 04, 03, 95, 85? The biggest rivalries in NBA history are Lakers/Celtics and this player vs that player. Even with a playoff spot nobody is gonna care about Pistons/Bucks like Cowboys/Commanders. Nobody is gonna stop caring about Boys/Commandos because they arent guaranteed a home playoff game. shyt it got so much history and those markets so big it would probably still have juice without the playoff spot.
