But a lot of white people use colored contacts to have green or blue eyes. Actually, the vast majority of people I have come across who wear these contacts are white.

Plenty of white people also get their hair permed to have more curls. Plenty of white people get tans to make themselves darker.

I'm not being naive that striving for white concept of beauty isn't real, which seems to be the case in the anecdote you presented, but what you implied seems like grasping for straws.

Does she go to a predominately white pre k type place? If so i feel the pain. Not until this summer when my youngest son got tanned from swimming and dark as fuk did he finally look at his arms and go: "Hey, I guess I am mexican!". lol.

At such young ages they aren't keyed in on what blue eyes means, she probably just likes the way it looks. I doubt she even understands teh concept of race or skin color

On some X-Men 3 (horrible movie, imo) shyt, there are lots of minorities who desperately want these things. My 4 year old niece got into a blueberry eating phase because she thought if she ate enough her eyes would turn blue, and in her own words, she "hates" her brown eyes. It starts so young...

Damn that's fukked up. Its funny because my sister somehow through some weird mutation has blue eyes. She's also really light. Me and my brother brutally clowned her and called her a blue-eyed devil and yellow-skinned and all types of shyt like that her whole life. She ended up being the most well-adjusted and all-around successful person in the entire extended family. It was character building.

I'm not implying that all white people have blue eyes. But rather that the majority of people that are able to naturally have blue eyes just so happen to be white. You have your rare Donnie Simpson type cases sure, but they're rare as hell. And honestly, if everyone were able to do this it'd take away from the novelty of those whom gained those features naturally.

Not to mention, you see more black celebs wanting to lighten their skin, and although natural looks are beginning to gain popularity we still have many black women putting their hair through hell just to kinda look like a white woman. So giving an option like this may only open the floodgates for more self-loathing behavior.

I think there are two controversies-

1. It hasn't been tested nearly enough yet, and it doesn't look like they're going to test it thoroughly enough before making it publicly available. Anything that involves lasers burning through eyes needs a lot of care.

2. The racial entanglements that inevitably get bound up with these.

I've met a couple of black people with natural green (I think they were some sort of green) eyes. Don't know how rare that is. This was all the way back in elementary and middle school, and I haven't seen it since.
