That's been attempted and kid/parents aren't happy with $1000+ phones being taken away.

Leave em at home. That way they aren’t taken away.

as far as nyc goes, i don't think theres a mass shooting problem in nyc schools since nypd been stationed in public schools since the 80's.

it's gotta be a better way to handle the phone in class issue. somebody should make an app where the data/texts goes out of service during classtime or somehow make the classes a bad service area .....
notice my block suggestion was regarding "data/text", not calls. if you trying to live stream your way through a school shooting you already lost
but no, i would leave the call option open. most people in general these days are scared af to actually talk over the phone.

I wasn't referring to the article itself, but more so responding to someone else's comment who said they shouldn't be there at all.

Even the "dumb phones" makes no sense whatsoever because you're essentially asking the parents to spend even more money just to suit the school's standard, which might not be possible for some parents.

I use to work at a school. Phones were a major problem. We had kids who would get into an argument or fight, then go call their parents and give them a one sided story before we even had a chance to investigate what exactly happened. Parents would then come to the school on fire, or the kids would post shyt on social media in school that they should t have. I’m glad they addressing this issues but there are bigger underlying issues concerning education.
