It’s been a collective effort of our destruction. I will always go back to the crack era. That set us back so many decades that we’re still recovering from it today.
Just remember, in the 70s, we were really picking up steam from the civil rights movement. Things weren’t perfect but we were slowly getting our shyt together, becoming proud of our blackness. And then crack came in and crushed the buildings.
The whole “I’m gonna get mines regardless” really became amplified in the 80s. We always had drug barons but the crack era made it seem like anyone could be a dope boy. There’s a reason why “Scarface” is considered a hood classic. It personifies what so many kids in the ghetto aspire to be.
So I can’t even be mad at the Cardi Bs and Gucci Mane’s. This culture of getting the bag by any means is in this country’s DNA. The problem is, it hits us the hardest and it’s manifested by a lack of shame. Onlyfans are the “dopeboys” of women now.
Sorry for being long winded.
