I believe the "lesser of two evils" argument is flawed because it ultimately sustains harmful systems rather than challenging them. When we keep choosing the so-called "lesser evil," we allow injustice to continue, just at a slower pace. This makes oppression more tolerable and prevents real change from happening.
I also think that continuously voting for the lesser evil normalizes harm and erodes moral integrity. If we keep excusing wrongdoing just because “the other side is worse,” then where does it stop? At some point, we have to stop compromising and start demanding real justice.
That said, I understand the counterargument—people suffer under “more evil” leaders, and there’s no guarantee that things getting worse will lead to positive change. But to me, the bigger risk is allowing a system to keep functioning just because it’s oppressing us more slowly. At some point, we have to break the cycle.
