New thriller: Don't Breathe

Finally caught this the other day and much like the Evil Dead remake before this, Alvarez is a director whose skills don't align with his tone. As mentioned by some, his style is very Fincher-esque, which is cool and all except this is pretty much a pure fukkery movie and it needed to be treated more like that. Sometimes you just got to embrace the camp of it all to make it work but Alvarez plays it far too straight far too much. The movie still works most of the time but this could've been a (cult) classic if only they had embraced the fukkery.

Way too many plot holes in this movie to be Fincher like.

The Blind Man is holding a woman (who killed his daughter in a hit-and-run and didn't go to jail) captive in his basement

The reason The Blind Man was holding the woman captive was so he could inseminate her with his sperm so she'd give him a replacement daughter and since the main girl in the movie caused the woman to die The Blind Man decides to make her take the woman's place

The girl thought she killed The Blind Man when she escaped but he ends up not being dead and is being recognized as a hero for killing two burglars who broke into his house

This was a very enjoyable popcorn flick.

This movie was pretty average. Lang had the only good performance, everyone else ranging from awful to just okay, the plot was a bit predictable, and the sequel-bait ending was stupid. To me, Green Room did everything that this film did better. Stronger acting, more suspense, and better written characters.

I'm watching third now if the strength of the hype is been getting since the summer, but already the sitting just ain't sitting well with me. How the fukk they make a movie that's set smack dab in the middle of a hood in Detroit and it's about 4 white people That's the biggest in this movie. White people do not live in the city, and ain't no white kids coming through either, especially to do the kind of dirt they were doing
