on some other shows, Combat talked about not knowing what the hell CL Smooth was rapping about lol. Hope he brings this up

edit:
50 seconds

:russ: yeah they actually talk about this near the end

was Pete awake for this? He's usually one of the most uninterested, inarticulate dudes ever when interviewed.

yeah Pete was very engaged and hype to be there through out the entire interview.

I remember Large Professor saying Nas knows what he's doing when he picks beats. He purposely picks lesser beats sometimes because he wants people to listen to the words and not get caught up in the rhythm

That's such a bad way to do it though, and seems like a cop out. Everyone listened to Nas' words on Ilmatic despite the dope production, same with the better produced tracks on his other albums. A dope beat gets my attention more than an average or wack one, and also makes it easier to listen to the lyrics.

Nas made strides on Life Is Good which is exec produced by No ID; No ID did a good job of helping to steer Nas to some dope shyt. However ever that album has some disasters like Summer On Smash, and to a lesser extent Reach Out (not a "bad" song but just feels old, not in a good way).

Its crazy that no CL Smooth questions @CombatJack :patrice:

i think he wanted to get away from the usual questions about TROY & other CL songs from their own albums. i was disappointed he didn't ask anything about Soul Survivor, what it was like recording with all those different MC's but it was good to hear about more than just TROY. i was 1/4 way through the NPR interview when i saw this. being a big fan of the @CombatJack Show i wanted to hear this first. it will be cool to hear Ali Shaheed talk to Pete about production.

:snoop: for some reason i don't think i knew that Pete made the beat for bytch In Yoo, at least i completely forgot about it.
