Groundhog Day with some of the dark existential philosophy found in Better Luck Tomorrow. The brother that wanted to stay at the campsite really presents a strong argument to the other brother regarding their life outside the cult. While everyone in and around the campsite are all stuck in endless albeit short loops of time, they enjoy the weather, freedom of no job, “good food” as opposed to the brothers who live a life free of the constraints of an endless loop of time/space and yet they still hate their life which is ultimately what led them back to the cult in the first place. In their real everyday lives, they are still in fact stuck in their own hamster loop of space/time because every day of their life is the same. Work their shytty job together, no social life to speak of out of work. Go home, go to sleep. Rinse, repeat until you fizzle out.
My takeaway from the film was to make sure that Im not caught in my own space/time loop which is a very easy thing for anyone to fall victim to. Do what you can to break the cycle of monotony that we feel trapped and confined to with our lifestyle/work schedule and enjoy this one life we have along our linear perception of life & death.
Fight Club draws upon the same parable in one of my favorite scenes
