Parents need to get their shyt together. I know schools and teachers can be racist fukks, but the number 1 influence in a child's life is the parents spending time and learning with them. My parents did that job no matter what, no matter how much work they had to do, they went to every event, every meeting, were always on my ass and it showed with my whole family. My aunts and uncles were the same way and had the same turn out for their children.

Unfortunately, these values get passed down so you are more likely to inherit that mentality. When I went to college and talked to my Asian friends, I had more similarity in upbringing/parental expectations to them than I did with many of the folks I went to high school with back home.

I'm not excusing racist pricks mind you, but there's definitely something that needs to be done at home in every household.

The state’s proposal still has to be approved by the U.S. Department of Education.

They're not saying black kids can pass with a 40% score, they're saying that 40% of black kids have to pass their state test for them to meet their goals

According to those new rates, 45 percent of African American students, 52 percent of Hispanics, 68 percent of whites and 82 percent of Asian students must pass the test.

"The starting point for these benchmarks actually reflects the achievement of the lowest performing students," explains Pyle. "Does the state have different expectations for different students? No. Each student still has to get the same number of questions right in order to pass the SOL."

"It's unfortunate fact that we have achievement gaps. The goal here is to provide a path that over time, over the course of six years, will result in making substantial reductions in those achievement gaps. The students start at different places but at the end of this period, the goal is for them to end at the same place," stresses Pyle.
