Also anyone who acts like Drake is the only one who felt a way about the Control verse is flat out lying. Plenty of rappers felt a way. Meek responded. Fab was gonna hit the studio and respond. But the issue was that everyone that tried to respond was shamed for it while at the same time Kendrick was being competitive. Cam had to call the Breakfast Club out for that shyt right to they face. Even breaking down how much of a Nas fan he was but he was still willing to compete with him when he said his name.

The problem isn’t the verses. I don’t mind those type of verses every now and then. I grew up on them. But when they become your whole identity then it becomes an issue. It's like every Cole verse his only purpose of rapping is to remind us how good he is at rapping. Yea ok man we get it. You're a good rapper. That's great. Now give us something with actual meaning. Like I said. J Cole is a black Eminem at this point.

Cole needs a hit. He needs more than “he’s got potential” at 40 years old.

Either a solid album or body of work…OR …fukking hits.

Drake has both. Kendrick has both.

Cole aint even on Wale’s level with hits like that. I’m not talking about CUTS…i'm talking SLAPPERS. Cole has grammy’s for a few features. I’m not denying that. I’m talking J COLE HIT RECORDS. He’s lacking.

Another 3.75-4 mic song from Cole. The issue is that none of his recent work goes beyond that.

For a dude who keeps claiming he's in his prime, the overall music isn't reflecting much to brag about. It's pretty much always a somber beat, average hook and nice rhymes, which is good for a listen or two. Nothing more. That's always been my issue with him. It's like dude truly has zero classic/amazing Hip Hop songs under his belt. Just a bunch of decent/good ones. Can he rap? Yeah... we already know that.

I like his as an artist but something is clearly lacking. Maybe his next LP will prove me wrong.

Cole pisses me the fukk off, man. All this talent and dude struggles to make albums nearly as interesting as his loosies and features.

Like how dare you have this ability and then tap out. How dare you have this ability but not be able to harness it into an undisputed classic album.
And y'all gotta leave that Kendrick slander the fukk up outta here. Kendrick is able to put it all together, and make albums that tell full stories, that have concepts that refer back to previous songs and characters and shyt.

That dude has analyzed himself and the world around him, and his culture in thought provoking ways. He can make an ALBUM. I saw someone say what Cole says here is deeper than anything on GNX? That's true. But GNX is the first album where Kendrick took it easily artistically.

I think if Cole could do what he did in this second verse across an album? He would be spoken of MUCH differently. When Cole is in his bag, he's pretty up there. But that's when he's in his bag. If he stuck around in the beef, and felt inspired to spit like he does on some of these features? shyt could have been VERY different.
