Aw I think it was legit different for divorcées and single mothers back in the day. I heard women would wear rings even if they weren’t married just to avoid the “single mother” stigma. I don’t know what happened because when I was a kid there was shame around it. A mix of socioeconomics, entertainment influence, etc… Ionno. It simply wasn’t an option for me, and I would’ve killed my significant other if I got pregnantI was just having this conversation with my man. Both of our parents were married, but separated when we were two. I'm trynna impress upon him that they aint talking bout his mama.
Old school single mothers were different, or maybe it's the fact that they had, in fact, been married at some point. Idk, but its different. He, his cousin-who-was-like-a-brother, his son, and my brother operate on a totally different type of time.

I was actually told by a family friend that if I came home pregnant I might have an “accident” walking down the stairs.
I laughed, she didn’t. That’s when my mother had given her a message to give to me, and when I knew not to play with my mother.
She’d rather potentially break my neck than have me come home from school pregnant.
