Basically he should of never moved down in weight, even Mackie Shilstone who help bulked him up told him not to do it and that it would be suicide, but you can't tell Roy nothing.
It's that ego
Mackie wanted roy to stay at heavyweight?

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: MACKIE SHILSTONE
By Krishen Rangi
How much of an issue is a fighter moving up taking the naturally bigger guy's shots. What have Spinks, Jones, Hopkins, guys like that said about their ability to absorb punches at higher weights?
I don't know of any fighter in the business of taking punches. Depends on the fighter if he has the power to take the punches. It's as much mental as it is physical. In the Jones/Ruiz fight we wanted to break his nose, that was the plan. We knew Ruiz had broken his nose in the Holyfield fight, and Roy broke his nose in the 6th round. He couldnt breathe out of it after that.
What happened to Roy Jones when he went back down to light-heavyweight to fight Tarver after you had helped him move up and beat Ruiz for the heavyweight title?
You have to remember Roy is such a talented athlete. The muscle that was put on is very difficult to take off. It was a very tough fight. Draining to anyone but he ended up winning. The same thing happended to Tarver when he did the Rocky movie. He was in the 220s then he came down and he was compromised against Bernard. I would have liked to see Roy stay at heavyweight, and I told him that. I think Roy would have beaten Tyson. I think Roy would have beaten Holyfield, but the fights weren't there. Muscle is not easy to take off, it affects your immune system.
How much did Roy weigh for the Ruiz fight?
200 lbs.
There was a story circulating he had weights in his pocket and he really weighed 193.
Before we went down for the weigh-in we were all kidding what Roy would weigh. Roy had been in the range of 199-200. What happned was Roy got on the scale and a fight broke out between Alton Merkerson and Ruiz's camp. Mark Ratner who was doing the weigh-in never let the scale adjust because the fight had broke out. I know Mark, and told him that's not his weight you should correct it. When Roy went to the hotel room and got on the scale he was laughing and saying "I can't believe it". He takes his shirt off and steps on the scale, and this is on the documentary ESPN did called "The Sweet Science". Mark Ratner was there too. I told him to call HBO so they wouldn't think it was rebound weight and they mentioned that on the broadcast.
I was checking Twitter and heard about the recent KO. I'm not gonna click on the link. Unneccessary. I've only seen that Tarver knockout once so I damn sure don't want to see anything like that. Roy Jones at his best was unlike any in the history of boxing. He went down in weight after beating Ruiz and his body didn't recover as it should of.
He probably would of recovered if it was a slow process, but at that age it was the wrong move regardless. If you got the guy that's bulking you up telling you not to move back down you should listen to him. Roy didn't even use Mackie for the first Tarver fight because his price went up. He basically just ran the weight off to make 175 and you could tell from his body how dry it looked, and how easily Roy got busted up. Something we never seen before. The 2nd Tarver fight he rehired Mackie and his body seemed to be in better conditioning but he was still dry looking. The damage was already done from the first fight though. Roy had too many yes men in his stable. He definitely should of listened to Mackie.
Now Roy just said in Russia he will definitely fight again for sure.
I got a feeling he doesn't want to go out with a lost
He didn't want to go out after he beat those jobbers a fight or two ago either.
he need to realize it's over
Another thing is how hard is he really training if he's working HBO commentary and doing all this traveling to promote fights? Traveling from city to city and going back to Russia don't help. He should of had a full training camp like he used to, because you know damn well his opponents are having full training camps training for the best RJJ.

Former four division world champion Roy Jones Jr. (62-9, 45KOs) says his most recent training camp was hindered by his very busy work schedule.
This past Saturday night in Moscow, the 46-years-old veteran was brutally knocked out in four rounds by former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli of the UK.
Jones was hurt and went down in the fourth round. He was still very dazed when he got up. Maccarinelli followed up with more punches and knocked him out cold. Jones hit the mat face-first and the fight was immediately waved off by the referee.
During the training period, Jones was swamped with media commitments is Russia to discuss his decision to become a Russian citizen. He had duties in the United States for HBO and other scheduled work related items in both countries.
Jones officially became a Russian citizen a few weeks ago and seems to have some future plans related to progressing his career in the country.
"Everything was good [in camp], it was top notch. Because of my schedule now, I don't have the luxury of staying in one place for eight to ten weeks like I used to do [for training camp]. Meaning that, with your life changing in every way, you don't have the time to dedicate full attention to it like you want to do. However, if it were a title fight, we would have made a few changes," Jones said.
"But no excuses, everything was good enough. I thought I was in superior shape. Sometimes when you get older, the body doesn't hold up. That's just how it turns out. I was happy with everything. I was happy with the fans who turned out. I was happy with everything leading up to the fight. The only thing that I wasn't happy with was the outcome. I look forward to being in the sport in one way or the other, maybe not so much in the ring and outside the ring but we'll see."
Roy basically saying what I said. Except he thinks what he was doing was good enough. From the quotes it does sound like he may be retiring.
