Their first-party games are straight. They can keep releasing Zelda, Mario, and whatever else, but what they need is better third party support for their consoles.
Nintendo and Atlus are keeping me full on the 3DS
Nintendo's curse is that they're almost too good. the quality of software they make for their audience third parties can't match it for the most part. sure you get a Capcom with Ace Attorney but third parties mostly don't know how to tap into the audience. when they put out games on the Nintendo platforms they mostly flop.
Nintendo gets their own audience. they're so in sync with them that the majority of them (me included) buy their systems just to play their games and that's the only reason we buy them.
i own a Wii U and a 3DS. some of what yall talking about porting those portable games over, if that would have happened i'd just own the Wii U and skip the 3DS that i bought only because it was the only way to play 3DS games.
Nintendo audience comes in two extremes that both lead to the same result. Core gamers who have the other systems and just buy Nintendo systems for the Nintendo gamers and the more causal gamers that only really care about the style of games Nintendo makes and have no real interest in other style games. both extremes lead to the situation where people that buy Nintendo consoles only really wanna play Nintendo style games.
its Nintendo's own fault. back when the Nintendo 64 came out and they refused to adopt CDs all the third parties left them and that situation also created the Playstation. the core gamers scattered to Microsoft and Sony in the end and some of us come back to Nintendo just for their games many more of us outright ignore Nintendo but i'd never buy a Call of Duty game on a Nintendo platform cause all the buddies play it on the Xbox or Playstation.
Nintendo will never again be the one box you can get it all on. in some respects their stubbornness and unwillingness to listen to others ruined their own brand at the same time strengthening it.
