I’m sure the outbreak has a little something to do with it
It's shocking to me because Disney is far more than merely Disney+. Do you understand just how much Disney owns in the media game? Disney+ itself is a drop in the bucket compared to everything else they make money off of. Meanwhile, Netflix is JUST a streaming service. If you had used a stalled sports and theater environment as your basis I'd have no rebuttal. That's why I think Disney will surpass them eventually.I am not sure why this is shocking- Disney+ hasn't released ANY new content since it debuted- im sure they loss subscribers- meanwhile Netflix is still flooding the market with original content
lets review once Disney finally gets some of its shows off the ground

Cmon...of course I know how much Disney owns but ummm noone is going to theme parks, noone is buying merch- so all the areas they dominate aside from what I listed, noone is spending money there-the one item that is rona proof is streaming and they are loosing that battle to Netflix which is why I am not surprised

Regardless of the pandemic, it's saying something that a company facing competition with a decades plus headstart and vastly more properties is, even temporarily, able to say they're worth more.
Of course Disney + is a drop in the bucket compared to everything Disney has been making money off of for decades. Something that is less than a year old is not more important to a billion dollar company than what they've been making money off of for the longest. You're right, I shouldn't say regardless of the pandemic, because the pandemic has shown people what the more level-headed of us have been saying for a while: Netflix isn't going anywhere. In the midst of a pandemic, Netflix is thriving. That is the surest sign of customer loyalty and brand recognition. People always default to that which they are familiar and comfortable with. You cant say regardless of the pandamic, thats a large variable in this equation. You say Disney plus is a drop in the bucket, which i disagree with. Netflix is showing how powerful original streaming content is and Disney knows this.
I agree with you that Disney will overtake them but i think that happens once Disney plus really gets going
