All I know is I saw the video then dude blew up. Had no idea who he was. He might be right but I’ll read the thread to see what people are saying.

Son Lil Jon produced My Boo. That shyt was huge. Lol.

Carl Mo produced My Boo, I’m kind of over this thread, I actually used to work with all of the core DJs in Atlanta as a youngin, and nikkas think they schoolin me in this thread. Jon left JD, not on good terms and he ain’t blow up till he left and that’s out of his own mouth. They might be good now, but that’s 25 years later

U ain’t gonna exclude his whole So so Def run where he had chances to network. Get his foot in the door and get to know who’s who in the industry and say it’s not a fukkin cosign bruh. Lol. No way. That’s not how this shyt works. Nelly went to NYC. Got help. Got signed by a super major label. And blew the fukk up. He had a fukking cosign. Unless we changing the meaning of cosign.

That ATL connection is something else man. People were really out here paying dues before they blew up.

That’s what I’m trying to see. What’s a co-sign. To me, Dr Dre put Em on by being featured on a song, appearing in a video, producing most of his debut album and signing him to his label. He did the same for Snoop and Kendrick (minus production).

To folks on here putting someone on means working at a label as a A&R. JD never helped Jon when in the Dre aspect, if anything he might have groomed him from the biz side, but Lil Jon was probably aided more by Too Short as someone else stated in this thread. I’m over it tho.

I think Nelly meant like Dre co signing Em, Snoop, 50 and Kendrick.

Kanye had Hov. Ja rule was on a Hov song before his debut album

Nelly is 100% correct. All of the big names had major co-signs back then. Y’all gotta remember this was an era where affiliations meant everything. A lot of people weren’t even checking for rappers that didn’t have some sort of affiliation

Luda already had a name in ATL and that’s how he got on Face’s radar

Em had Dre. Only reason people even checked for Em becuz he had already floated around underground for years and went nowhere

50 had Em and Dre. Of course he already had a name somewhat but know way he blows up the way he did without them

Ja had Irv who already had pull in the NYC scene. Matter fact he did some production on Mic Geronimos debut in 95 which btw features a song with Ja, Jay, and DMX

Nelly got it all the way out the mud. Sure there have been plenty of other rappers who didn’t have co-signs but none of them came close to blowing up how Nelly did

So he’s talking about features? I’m confused. Because linking with a popular team that helps u get ur foot in the door at a record label sounds like a cosign to me. Nelly making it sound like he did it on his own. On top of the fact he had major artists on his debut. Again. What does he mean by cosign?

He means he wasn’t affiliated with anybody

Like I said before. No So So Def. He doesn’t get in the room with certain people. He may have never even had a chance to link with Short. Who was ALSO a cosign. Regardless. Lil Jon doesn’t fit this conversation.
