For the type of science he's talking about, I strongly agree. That science and bible believers will always be at war and NOTHING will change that nor do I want it to.

I think you guys misinterpreting what he meant when he made that statement. He has no problem with educated religious people but his bone is with the rabid protestant fundamentalism that arose out of the 19th century that still causes problems today. He wasn't going on a anti-religion spiel ala Dawkins, he's going after fundamentalist.

On a side note....IDGAF, Pluto is still a planet to me and him and his white CAC wife can suck it! :pacspit:

Pluto orbits the sun, it's gravitationally rounded, it has hydrostatic equilibrium, it even has an atmosphere along with its own five moons. Its not the size of the boat but the motion of the ocean!:birdman: 9 or DIE!!!!

Although I agree with his stance about not politicizing science, I'm glad he gave George Bush his due props. :smugbiden:

What's sad is people playing the line of science or religion so hard that they fail to see the merit of both... thus tossing away centuries of intellect for a few decades of contemporary knowledge.

fukk science and religion, learn to meditate. We created god because we are god.

I'll take my chances believing in the most high while at the same time not ignoring the benefits of science. Being a balanced individual is great.
Hope you chose the right god.

...uh...theres no "merit" to religion beyond history.

Considering that Genesis (for instance) is a didactic poem, I'd say your opinion and Neil's are both born of ignorance of the facts.

Criticize texts for being something they weren't written to be, brehs.

u do realize not everyone believes genesis is a didactic poem right?

this is a debatable interpretation…and we criticize those who believe its real, not those that see it as a mere lesson

Sure, that's why I got educated on the subject and use both historical textual criticism and form criticism.

It hasn't been 'debatable' since Augustine's exegesis in the 4th Century CE up until the Scopes Monkey Trial in the 20's which birthed 'Creationism'.

Unless you're speaking to a fundamentalist/Creationist your critique is a waste of thought.
