It depends on what you're trying to spend. Like dude above said, don't go the laptop route. If you're looking for budget, but good gaming start looking at Ryzen 5 5600x or better and a motherboard with overclocking for it. 16GB RAM. For gaming, at least 500GB SSD but 1TB or better would be ideal.

I can't call it on the GPU side. There are too many at this point and they are all over priced and/or sold out right now. You'd have to dive into that research to figure out what you can even get your hands on

if hes super young, laptop might be more efficient for something like roblox, minecraft, etc. plus has video cards built in so its already set.

Unless you travel a lot for work theres no way i can recommend a gaming laptop.

a mobile 3080 aint the same as a desktop 3080

plus the thermals gonna throttle that shyt even further, plus laptops are so limited on what you can upgrade.

unless your kid a fortune 500 employee on the road, they gonna have to settle for a desktop.

need to know your budget as well.

I never recommend a gaming laptop, especially not for kids. the fact that it's portable just increases the odds of that shyt getting broken
