NBA Revenues up 20 percent

NHL has a lockout right now. All the people who would be spending money on tickets to watch a professional sporting event (fans and non-fans) are buying basketball tickets instead. If the NHL were not in a lockout, I don't think this 20% increase would be there.

@ NBA being a global brand. most euros i know who are into basketball dont give a fukk about nba, but their own leagues. especially the spanish. the only time they are checking for anything is when one of their own do something noteworthy. kind like how soccer in america only gets national shine during the world cup, dirk gets shine when he's in the finals. no one's checking day to day.

Its interesting to read how the culture shifted from baseball to basketball...I read alot of stories from the 40s and 50s cats like Jackie Robinson who played basketball football track and baseball and chose baseball...That really was the go to sport back in those days,the others were all minor league...

All those 40s and 50s heads like Willie Mays,Satchel Paige,Lou Brock they all chose baseball as if it were basketball in 2012..Its hard to think where the culture is presently and think only 60 years ago it was completely opposite...

I know some heads today who have grandparents that played in the negro leagues and they dont give a shyt,dont know anything about the history or culture signifigance of it and dont want to learn it cuz in there words ITS BASEBALL i DONT GIVE A FCK...

Alot of these cats that hate it,dont realize the culture signifigance it played in there family heritage 60-70 yrs ago..kinda sad...

My gym teacher back in high school told us about how Magic, Bird, and Jordan killed off baseball in the inner city and fundamentals in basketball. Nobody wants to be Reggie Jackson, Ricky Henderson, Darryl Strawberry when I could command the game of basketball.

Nah. The anti NBA sentiment from ESPN stopped immediately after ESPN/ABC had an agreement with the league.

Yeah espn gives more coverage to sports its in bed with it really has nothing to do with overall popularity

espn radio hardly covered the mlb playoffs and i remember the hosts especially Cowherd sayign its because nobody cares when in reality its because epsn didnt have the mlb playoffs

If you haven't notice ESPN barely covers the NHL. Past seasons they would only have 1 analyst while you got people at every training facility in the NFL for SportsCenter. When ESPN/ABC lost their NHL contract and Disney sold their hockey team, hockey coverage died on ESPN. It's the only thing besides March Madness and The Olympics(in this country) they don't have their "fingers" on.

How did a thread about basketball rebounding financially, turn into baseball bashing? Can somebody please explain to me the hostility black people have towards baseball?

It's really only this site... From my perspective it stems from the and Tremont and Mel Yeah being mods that a lot of posters hated...Baseball always seemed to be their favorite sport so the back lash snowballed from that...It's like an on going joke that always gets a reaction...

In reality most Black people don't even think about baseball enough for there to be any real hostility...
