So we using the Olympics where Team USA went life and death with Jokic and a bunch of coal miners as a barometer? Here's a hint, the Olympic team played well below their ceiling because everything revolved around the flabby heads
Funny how you mentioned the bubble season when Tatum couldn't even get to the finals there. When was the Last time KD or LeBron led a team to winning anything other than a In Season tournament on a non Bubble season? I'll wait.
By the Way KD Played with Kyrie, Harden, Booker, Bradley Beal, Curry, Klay, Draymond the past 6 seasons. Nothing to show for.
and LeBron has played with the avengers since he won a real title in 2016.
Tatum didn’t dominate shyt, wtf are you talking about? Goran Dragic and Bruce Brown were starting.Except Tatum had already dominated KD in the playoffs a couple years ago so there's no reason to suggest that KD is a better player than him right now besides "I like the way his game looks".... KD was getting locked up lol
GM's trying to sweet talk the Celts right before the season starts, I see it
Emplead has to do it in the playoffs before he gets byke in Jokic convos
Then what does that make Emplead who constantly gets punked by a 70 year old AL Horford when it matters mostMan vs Man. Jokic is ass
If there were lots of other true centers in the league hed be Greg Ostertag
Then what does that make Emplead who constantly gets punked by a 70 year old AL Horford when it matters most
When has Tatum ever led his team to win anything ever? Brown (and depending on the round both Holiday and White) outperformed him in every series Shooting 38% from the field in the finals isn't leading shyt.
Both are in their late 30s performing better in the playoffs than prime Tatum. I shudder to think what a Tatum led offense would look like in 12 years.
Tatum is better than Bron and KD for an 82 game season but most coaches/GMs are taking Bron and KD over Tatum for a playoff series.
White was a trade deadline acquisition that yearLol @ "if you swap Tatum with this guy or that guy...." You think it's Derek White who is making all the difference? Great role player but that's what he is, a role player. Holiday? He's still solid but past his prime years.
Porzingis? He barely even played in the playoffs....
The Celtics won and dominated the regular season and the playoffs because of Brown and Tatum because they both play offense AND defense...
Also, Tatum dominated KD in that playoff series without White or Holiday on the team....
The Celtics were up 2-0 after the first tweet and 3-1 after the second. They ended up finishing 7-0 in games he shot under 40%
But nah, totally normal star player performance in the playoffs.. Up there with 2023 Jokic. That's why Tatum won both the ECF and Finals MVPs, right?
Oh so what's the narrative now? That Jaylen Brown carried the team with no help all season and during the playoffs?
This is from people who clowned Jaylen Brown, said he can't dribble at all and wasn't worth the contract he got.
So which is it?
Lmao. Tatum LED the Celtics on every single offensive category the 6th player to do that in the history of the game but yeah let’s throw in Holliday and White in there.
But go ahead convince yourself he was “carried” to a title
Who argued that Jaylen Brown carried?Well they went 16-3 the entire playoff run so it’d be pretty hard to cherry pick a stat for any player where they’d have a losing record, that’s kinda the point of having a great team rather than going star-chasing
And I couldn’t care less about him having a bad +/- in one game that was a complete blowout from start to finish.
I don’t think I or anyone else is claiming Tatum had some type of special all time playoff run. But y’all are minimizing the hell out of what he did do. A person who led the team in points, rebounds and assists while being their most versatile defender cannot also be someone who was just along for the ride. It’s just not a logical conclusion to. He did not carry the team, but also neither did Jaylen…
Who argued that Jaylen Brown carried?
I simply stated that Tatum was statistically outperformed by a teammate in damn near every round of the playoffs. You have to be a homer or mindlessly results-based to think this playoff run did anything to improve Tatum’s standing amongst the best of the best, which is what this thread is about. The 2024 Celtics were closer to all-time great ensemble casts like the 2004 Pistons or 2014 Spurs than they were the 2023 Nuggets or 2011 Mavs.
Just to reiterate, the guy didn’t win the Finals MVP, he didn’t win the ECF MVP, in the second round he scored as many FGs as Brown on 30 more shots, and yet you have folks acting like it’s egregious to think he had a playoff run below the standards you would expect from a true superstar.
If anything, you could argue that he’s an additive player that does enough of the little things for his team to win when he’s struggling but that’s irrelevant to a thread that is discussing top 10-15 players.
