Most people don’t understand that the most played sports are not the most popular spectator sports. Youth participation doesn’t mean shyt. Soccer’s popularity in America is mostly due to convenience and accessibility, it’s a cheap and accessible sport to play and there plenty of soccer fields/ pitches out there. Everyone can play soccer. There are no financial or structural barriers that prevent people from playing it. A lot of people find soccer, baseball or basketball fun to play but boring to watch on TV for example. It’s not because you can love to play a sport thyou will watch it. And it goes the reverse way too, you can hate to play a particular sport in real life but find it entertaining and compelling to watch on TV.But they're nonsense. The fact that youth participation in soccer is dropping while tennis is increasing is meaningless, because soccer has ALWAYS gotten poor TV ratings and tennis has ALWAYS been more popular than soccer on TV, even back 40 years ago when soccer was the most popular sport for kids to get into and only rich kids played tennis at all. And there are STILL more kids playing soccer than playing tennis, yet soccer ratings can't touch tennis ratings.
The same is true for basketball and football - football has ALWAYS been more popular than basketball on TV, even when way more kids played basketball than football.
Your charts showed that golf and baseball and soccer are played by more kids than football too, so why aren't their ratings as good as football ratings are? Swimming and ice hockey are played by the same # of kids, yet ice hockey is a popular televised sport and swimming isn't even on television except in Olympic years.
There's no correlation between how many kids play a sport and how good that sport's ratings are. Your entire point was bunk and your own stats showed that.
LOL - so I guess The Godfather was never popular, right? Bonnie and Clyde, On the Waterfront, West Side Story, The Warriors, Dukes of Hazard, all the Westerns that focused on the outlaws instead of the good guys. Movies about criminals have always been popular.
And I had to at your "when crime rates were lower" line. Are you aware that Breaking Bad was televised during the LOWEST crime rates of the last 60 years?
People consume media around their fantasy interests, not their real-life interests. They don't watch Marvel because they used to be a superhero, and they don't flock to the Titantic because they go on a lot of luxury cruises. Star Wars doesn't relate to many people's back story, and The Sopranos didn't hit it big cause so many viewers were nostalgic for their time in the mafia.
The entire point was nonsense.
The Finals are a whole different ball game. ESPN and ABC and celebs and businesses aren't sending their talent to the 2nd round. No they don't.
They don't schedule hard dates for the 2nd round or the conference finals, sometimes a series in those rounds will start while some other teams are still playing in a previous round. This excuse is not valid at all.
And they used to do it before anyway.
Man, no body gives a shyt about that dude in wnba. This Caitlin Clark shyt has proved a lot of America won't tune into these games because the stars are black/foreign. If the NBA ever gets the male equivalent of Caitlin then he'd be by far the biggest star in the League and those ratings will get doubled in an instant.
CONNECT A HD ANTENNA
TO YOUR TELEVISION.
YOU CAN GET ONE FOR $10
IF YOU DONT HAVE ONE.
They don't schedule hard dates because they can't. They schedule a hard date for the finals because they need to secure it mostly for television. They don't want to give teams an abnormal amount of rest for games early on in the playoffs (and they also can't guarantee they'd get the days they want because of the arenas). No they don't.

Its truly mind boggling. Are there really people not aware you can hook an antenna up to your TV to get local channels...as has been the case since broadcast television started?
Breh I just wanna highlight this and thank you fr. I saw this post yesterday and immediately went to Walmart. I’ve heard of the antenna back when I started college but I lived on campus and didn’t need it so I forgot about it.
To anybody in america that’s about to illegally stream the game today. I get it, I used to be dumb too.
Go to Walmart
Get the $11 Watch Onn antenna
All you gotta do is hook the antenna cord to the TV
Do an Auto Channel Scan on your TV’s menu option
In 5 minutes, you’ll be watching the game on ABC HD
It’s way better than the illegal stream. Stop having to refresh at the best parts of the game.
do these ratings take into account people who watch via Roku or fire stick?
