hate to complain but this game is probably the best and worst 2k ive played

dribbling feels better and animations

but it doesnt feel free flowing or natural at all
the rubberbanding is still bad if not worse... you go through blocks
randomly defensive post will morph through you to grab boards when you play good defense

shooting to me has gotten lowest of all time
they want you to play like highschool basketball... not like a professional

this is what happens when you have no black people on your development team
I feel like this game peaked a long time ago and now its just people whove never hooped trying to keep tweaking a product that was already perfect

its been over a decade since they actually put weight and gameplay into post players

I remember 2 years ago people complained about defense... it seems like it got worse
players are super floaty and dont attach to the ballhandler ... if you overplay a side, they just glitch through you in most cases

game speed alone is kind of cheeks
ive been playing since dreamcast with iverson on the cover
barely made it past 10 games on this one
myplayer playing 3s gotta be super awkward and trash, maybe with everyone 95 and up on court would make it seem fun
this feels more like a chore than playing basketball
its like dude said about myplayer... they still got that shyt where Curry is your teammate and shoot 0-13 just to rubberband the game :palm:

I fukking hate this.
Center will go through you and speed boost through the lane to grab a board above the rim and shyt :russ:
the blocks piss me off, ill play average or bad defense and PF or C will miss

but if I time another one perfectly, and cover the side of the baseline with the drop on them.... somehow WITH contact they will just do a 1970s slow ass fingeroll through me and shyt with no defensive pressure

you play a guard on one side and time a steal ... he will go through the ballhandler and give up easy bucket
any other steal is you basically reaching and fouling but somehow works better ... like a professional PG is just gonna stand squard and let you swipe the ball directly in front of them

I noticed the CPU will actually pump fake you realistic in this one though... they dont just always force the issue like the past 20 years
I can see where they tried or did improve the entire game... but the gameplay itself is so ass

it feels like how a white person must feel at open run
shyt is a Bobby Hurley/Kevin McHale simulator

While this game wasn’t perfect by any means, it felt better on launch day. The only real complaint to me was shooting was harder and lack of fast breaks. Now it seems like not only do those issues exist, but it’s harder to grab rebounds, too many turnovers just from dribbling into someone, turnovers from passing the ball to someone (that weren’t even a jump pass), and somehow, the computer got dumber. The stars used to actually play like stars, but now, you will see them take the most ridiculous off balance 3s.

im just gonna say it with risk of getting shyt on
I cant shoot in these games anymore :yeshrug: I can still grind out a win .... but I see other people draining the toughest double teamed shots
since 2020 I hate how they made shooting. I used to drop 130 with Durant... now I can barely hit 30-35. Cant hit midrange leaners with him over smaller opponents. I know its just me, but I feel like the difference between a 80rating player and a 95 is barely different shooting wise. (Obviously you can feel the difference and the badges make you drain shyt) but pure shooting wise... I can probably hit just as many Js with CJ Mccollum type player than KD

I never liked how you cant just triple threat size up like Carmelo and drain shots over the defender.... or that terrible animation on close outs where your shooter will tip over while someone runs at you... that never happens in real life. Players like Klay, Durant, Tmac etc shouldnt be effected by weak close outs or just putting your hand up. I know people can shoot better than me... but it ruins the game when you try to play SIM style and you cant even punish smaller guards or terrible defense. 2006-2016 shooting was on point no matter who you used... now it just seems effected by everything. You can just stand still with shot stick up without jumping and it effects the offensive player. Players like Tatum, KD, Luka aint gonna give a fukk about you just putting your hand in the air. In real life you're gonna be food without actually contesting.

They have this weird dynamic with creating space, like you can get easier shot off with Kyrie than KD, and thats not just realistic. Shooters supposed to shoot. Ive just slowly hated the feeling of shooting most of all in these games lately. It goes hand in hand with them making defense weird... they try to make up for it by simply "being there" but being there isnt actual defense in real life. Closing out on a player like Klay just means its his choice if he makes it or not, they always reward proximity and not reality. But like I said, I play with people who drain all types of shyt, so it is just me.... I havent been able to adjust 100% to how they changed it the past 3-4 years. You can feel when the ball comes off how dead the shot feels... its like your player isnt shooting with deliberate action. In real life ive never just hoisted some bullshyt up like that... it just doesnt feel natural in the game anymore.

It’s not just you. I’ve even noticed that the shot releases even change. Like I might take a shot with KD, and it’ll be excellent or slightly late/slightly early. Then if I take the SAME shot in a different spot and release it the same way, it’ll say late or early. I remember at one point, even the computer was missing wide open shots. I tested it and left Steph Curry wide open and and would shoot a brick. This was sometime after they released a patch. The computer is making shots now, but the shots on this game are off. You can’t make a single contested shot, and the wide open shots have to be perfect.

Shooting was always hard, but it wasn’t this cheap when the game first got released.

I'm glad someone else confirmed... especially since this is the only one ever I didnt play at launch. I know they always change shyt like 2-3 weeks in.
I'll try to shoot early and miss ... or ill go for perfect and they play me like I was contested. I could never find a good middle ground the past few years. I usually warm up and get better but it just doesnt feel right.

And for a game that "Mo-caps players jumpshots" it sure feels like they change or tweak KD's jumpshot every year. I have a friend who jacks all the shots... he's always been ice cold... hitting step backs out of bounds over 2 defenders. It makes no sense to me. I wouldnt say I am a bad player... I am somewhere between B and A- ... we win like 700 out of 1000 park games playing pretty normally. But as a wing and spot up guy... I shoot worse than the dude jacking and getting doubled :russ: shyt makes no sense. Like you said, I know its bad when I use KD and they make his midrange super trash... the only good defense in real life you can play on a 7 foot dudes midrange, is to time the block before he shoots or just guard him with length too. There's no way just being there at 6'3 equates to KD bricking some trash animation. He would just raise up over you like in real life and feast. I feel like they make certain players godmode and other superstars kind of trash. Not just for bricking with Curry like you said, but I can beast with Iverson and dunk with him like I'm Jason Richardson, hitting every shot ... but if I'm Kobe... I'm missing, doing rim grazer dunks and fighting with all my life to get to the rim or making space. I brought up Jason Richardson because I can play with him like he's Michael Jordan :mjlol: and shoot with him like I'm Larry Bird. shyt makes no sense.

I’m just HOPING they release another patch that will make it playable. I remember last year, one of the main gameplay glitches was no fast breaks because when you caught the ball, they would make you stop for a split second instead of just running in stride. They did fix that after a patch though. A lot of people have been complaining about the shooting and other things, so I’m just hoping it gets addressed.

you right, thats a whole nother issue...you could catch people with anyone on fastbreak
then if you had chasedown block or high block stat you could almost stop the break in mad games

the initial thing that upset me about this one... was I would grab a board
and they would make everyone pause and not push. I know they always used to use cutscenes and slow shyt down to balance defense
but its so bad now... you cant just grab a board and fastbreak...unless its rubberbanding and your player is moving on skates for that possession
fast guards and nikkas like Lebron, KD, Giannis should be able to catch, turn and take off.

Im surprised you even said they fixed the fast break thing. Its been in the game for years. Sometimes you could even catch the fast break with two guys and sandwich the offensive player into a weird animation. I feel mad old, but 2k7 or whichever one with Shaq on the cover was my favorite. You could size up, get tip ins and it was better pace. It was kind of wonky but had a good offensive pace for all players.

the post had weight and power... the shooting was excellent for everyone that could shoot...better pace and the players played to their real capabilities.
I always feel super old when I say 2k7 and people say 2k16 :mjlol:

I’ve played EVERY 2k going back to Dreamcast days. I will never say the older games are better, because they do seem to make gameplay improvements, while taking away in other areas. If I were to go back and play 2k19, it’s almost unplayable. I think my frustration is this game has potential to be great, but it’s missing some key things that take away from the flow of basketball. I probably could fix certain things with sliders, but I’m too lazy to do all that.

Man that 2k7 video you posted, I didn’t realize how trash the commentary was back then compared to now.
