I know trolls aren't natural....so I advise 88 to only come in with material that is only relevant to this thread or you will be reported.

I understand your contempt for me but I'm trying to help people as outlined in your op.

Also friends, please be aware of capitalists in sheep's clothing.

Don't forget that at the end of the day, some of these people are pushing you to buy their product. Do your research and learn. There are good natural things out there, but don't accept it all as true or good.

Don't be one of these people I see walking about my whole foods:

This. Thank you for very true words. Their are products out there claiming to be natural and helpful and they do nothing. Those people create a item that is meant to be expensive and down-right hard to find anything about the product reviews and ingredients except on their websites.

Herbs for High Blood Pressure and Hyper-Tension Problems

Garlic

In a meta-analysis of seven randomized controlled trials of garlic supplements, three trials showed a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure and four in diastolic blood pressure. Researchers concluded that garlic powder supplement may be of clinical use in patients with mild high blood pressure. Research first of it's effects on any medication you take.

Hawthorn

The herb hawthorn is often used by traditional herbal practitioners for high blood pressure. In a randomized controlled trial conducted by researchers in Reading, UK, 79 patients with type 2 diabetes were randomized to receive either 1200 mg of hawthorn extract a day or placebo for 16 weeks. Medication for high blood pressure was used by 71 percent of the patients.
At the end of the 16 weeks, patients taking the hawthorn supplement had a significant reduction in mean diastolic blood pressure (2.6 mm Hg). No herb-drug interactions were reported.

Fish Oil

Preliminary studies suggest that fish oil may have a modest effect on high blood pressure.

Cinnamon Cinnamon not only prevents heart disease, it can also prevent diabetes. The Center for Applied Health Sciences in Ohio conducted a study of 22 subjects, half of which were given a 250mg of water soluble cinnamon daily while the other half were given placebo. It was discovered that those who drank cinnamon had a 13 to 23 percent increase in antioxidants connected with lowering blood sugar levels.

Olives -This herb is a significant part of the Mediterranean diet, recognized to be one of the healthiest in the world. Oil made from olives has been found to reduce blood pressure. In a study conducted on the importance of olive oil, Dr. L. Aldo Ferrara, Associate Professor at the Frederico II University of Naples in Italy discovered that the daily use of 40 grams of olive oil reduced the dosage of blood pressure medication in hypertensive patients by about 50 percent. Polyphenols in extra-virgin olive oil was credited for the significant reduction of blood pressure.

Oregano This herb contains the compound carvacrol which has been proven to be effective against blood pressure. In a study conducted on animal subjects, by researchers from Eskisehir Osmangazi University in Turkey, carvacrol was found to reduce heart rate, mean arterial pressure as well as the systolic and diastolic blood pressures.

Ginkgo Biloba from the large tree indigenous to the mountains of China, gingko biloba improves blood circulation and dilates arteries, reducing blood pressure. Gingko also aids in improving memory and mental alertness due to increased blood flow to the brain.

Ginger Root commonly used in Asian cooking, ginger acts to improve blood circulation and relaxes muscles surrounding blood vessels. Ginger is also a powerful digestive herb that helps alleviate uneasiness and nausea

Maitake from the Chinese mushroom, maitake extract acts to decrease both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Maitake also lowers blood cholesterol levels.

After the end of the 3 months, all the subjects experienced feelings of well-being without any side effects. Moreover, the study was able to demonstrate that blood pressure was effectively reduced. It also improved antioxidant status while breaking down blood clots without significantly altering blood lipids and fibrinogen levels.

Turmeric a powerful East-Indian herb used in curry dishes, turmeric extract contains curcumin which is a strong anti-inflammatory. Curcumin helps lower cholesterol and prevents clot formation. Herbs for Anxiety

Kava Kava
This is one of the most popular choices for the treatment of anxiety and insomnia. It is a powerful herb from the South Seas. Used as an alternative to Valium, research studies have found it reduces anxiety equivalently. The advantage is that there are no addictive side effects with the Kava Kava. Bear in mind, Kava Kava WILL knock you out. It acts as a sedative so don’t take it if you need to stay alert for any duration of time. This is a more powerful alternative if Valerian root isn’t getting rid of your nocturnal anxiety effectively enough.

Meadow Sweet
Meadow Sweet relieves headaches related to anxiety and stress. You can drink meadowsweet tea or extract as a convenient dietary supplement.

Passion Flower
Passion Flower acts as a non-drowsy, natural sedative that relieves intermittent nervousness, anxiety and panic attacks. It’s actually the vine of the passion flower that holds the soothing effects.

St. Johns Wort
Extracts of this popular herb exert an antidepressant effect by inhibiting the reuptake of the neurotransmitters serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. Dosage may vary. The one I took had a recommended serving of three grams of powder per day, but you really need to take it for weeks before results are felt. That said, if you just buy the supplement pills at your health store, this herb becomes a convenient way to ward off the blues.

Ginkgo Biloba
Used to improve circulation to the brain, Ginkgo Biloba elevates mood and is often used as a natural antidepressant.

Valerian

Valerian (Valerian officianalis) completes the list of major herbs to reduce anxiety. The shrubby perennial sports pink or white lacey flowers with a distinctive, sweet scent. Our ancestors grew Valerian as an ornamental flower, perfume, and medicinal herb. Hippocrates and Galen, two well-known ancient Greek physicians, wrote extensively about the powers of Valerian.

L-Theanine

Theanine is an amino acid commonly found in tea, and also in the basidiomycete mushroom Boletus badius. Theanine is related to glutamine, and can cross the blood-brain barrier .Because it can enter the brain, theanine has psychoactive properties. Theanine has been shown to reduce mental and physical stress, may produce feelings of relaxation and improves cognition and mood when taken in combination with caffeine.

I hope ya'll dont be taking these all willy nilly, especially when you don't know where your current levels are or how they interact with each other. Especially things like St. Johns Wort.

A year ago, I would take L-Carnitine before every kickboxing class and I totally helped escalate a metabolic disorder that I didn't know I had.

I have since then had lots of blood tests and know where my deficiencies are. I take various fish and cod liver oils in pill and liquid form for anti-inflammatory purposes - sinus headaches, puffiness, skin hives, and joint pain.

I take a vitamin D supplement, but try to bask my legs in the sun a few times a week so that my body can make its own. If you are brown skinned and work inside all day long, chances are that you are vitamin D deficient too. Google "Vitamin D Deficiency in African Americans". My fitness progress always increases when I'm consistent with the basking.

I have a few herb plants on my porch, mostly for food.

From left to right: French Lavendar (for aromatherapy and warding off bugs), rosemary, mint, Thai basil, and the skinny one by the feet is the stevia plant since I cut out sugar.

yay i love this thread....give me some time to post all of the things i use and benefits...here's a start though

Tea Tree Oil – I use after I wash my face to spot treat any icky breakouts and I also use in my yoga mat wash spray to help fight icky bacteria due sweating like a fiend all over it…I also add a few drops into my shampoo and lotion
Tea tree oil has been proven to be a powerful yet natural antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal medicine (essential oil).
It is being used as a very effective first aid remedy and against countless skin ailments, infections, cuts, scrapes, burns, insect bites and skin spots etc.
Tea tree oil is effective against nail fungus, ringworm, athlete's foot, dandruff, acne, blackheads and many types of infestations including lice, mites, scabies and mosquitoes etc...
Tea tree oil is not just soothing and disinfecting, it is capable of penetrating into the lower skin layers with its anti-inflammatory, disinfectant, analgesic (pain-killing) and cicatrizant (wound-healing) qualities.
It has a diaphoretic effect - It promotes sweating - which enhances the body's own natural preventative response when threatened by infection.
Tea tree oil exhibits expectorant and balsamic characteristics, which are especially beneficial in the case of throat or chest infections, having a generally soothing and clearing (mucus-expelling) effect on the entire respiratory tract. It is also effective against head colds.

Avocado Oil – I have used it to cook but normally use it on my skin and hair for moisturizer
Gum Disease

Avocado oil may prevent periodontal disease by decreasing inflammation in the gums, according to a study published in the December 2001 issue of the "Journal of Periodontology." In the tissue culture study, low doses of avocado oil were more effective than high doses at inhibiting tissue-degrading enzymes. Soy oil also tested well as a natural product for use in treating gum diseasein this study.
Heart Healthy

A study published in the February 2003 issue of the "Journal of the American College of Nutrition" found that avocado oil is comparable to olive oil as a heart-healthy dietary oil. In the study on laboratory animals, researchers compared the atherogenic effects of avocado oil with coconut, olive and corn oil. The oils comprised 14 percent of the animals' diets for 90 days. Coconut proved to be the most atherosclerosis-promoting oil of the group. High density lipoprotein, or HDL, the good form of cholesterol, was highest in the avocado and corn oil groups.
Weight Management

Avocado oil does not promote weight gain even though it is composed of 90 percent fat, according to a study published in the January 2005 issue of the journal "Nutrition." The study found that when avocados were included in a weight loss diet, body mass and body fat percentage decreased significantly. In the study, 55 participants, the majority female, ate 200 g per day of avocado, containing 30.6 g of fat, in place of 30 g of other dietary fats, such as margarine or oil, for one week. The researchers noted that cholesterol levels and blood pressure were not affected by the avocado consumption or weight loss in the study.

Flax seed: I use when i cook and in my daily smoothies...sometimes just chomp up a tablespoon or two right out the package

Although flaxseed contains all sorts of healthy components, it owes its healthy reputation primarily to three ingredients:

· Omega-3 essential fatty acids, "good" fats that have been shown to have heart-healthy effects. Each tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains about 1.8 grams of plant omega-3s.
·
· Lignans, which have both plant estrogen and antioxidant qualities. Flaxseed contains 75-800 times more lignans than other plant foods.
·
· Fiber. Flaxseed contains both the soluble and insoluble types.
