Pacing was really off with this movie. Felt like chunks of it were missing. I get that he had a limited budget but you’d think they’d at least show more of how they took over the police station

The trial scenes were a mixed bag. Some of it was powerful while some of it was cringeworthy with how preachy and didactic they got. There were times where the script felt like he lifted random comments from an argument on Facebook

Idk, movie was meh to me and a step down from Birth of a Nation. I think Nate has some great ideas and he’s definitely ambitious but the execution is lacking

I do think a lot of critics were overly harsh and using their opinions on Nate to impact their reviews but the movie is far from a masterpiece

Watched the movie again and took the ending differently than I did the first time. I took it as no matter how merciful we are to white people and police, they still see us as threats and will take us out without a second thought. Then spin a narrative to justify their inhuman behaviour.

I HATED THIS shyt!!!

I love Nate Parker as an actor but the fact he fence sat with this one pissed me off. You risk all of your boys lives and freedom for that shyt?? WTF??!

He may as well hugged the cop.
When the pig says “ I want to walk out of here with you and not as an enemy” I legit thought Nate was gonna shake his fukkin hand. They dropped the ball so bad with what this movie coulda been.

Most of y'all criticism that I've read in here is mostly based on what you WISHED that happened rather than what the film being good or not. You're judgement on the film should be on the quality of it. How well it was directed, how well it was acted, how well it was filmed in general. I think this was a creative way of a dead genre of found footage. It should be given props in doing that making it feel more documentary than cinematic, because it is based on a truth that exist in this Nation. Now I'm not even a FAN of Nate Parker because I did not like at all Birth of a Nation mostly due to it being really a horror slave movie rather than a revolutionary movie. Nat Turner was a revolutionary and the film should of focused more on the revolt instead of it being conducted only 7 minutes of screen time in a 2hr movie and most of the white deaths being off screen whereas 90% of the rest of the violence was towards black people. We didn't need another slave movie in disguise. This, however is different. This was a movie about a black father of a deceased son taking over the police station to hold a kangaroo court. I dunno what y'all really expected? If you expected them just killing police then you obviously ignored the trailer of that not going to be the case. It was a film not so much of the action, but a commentary of showing both sides of the story to open a serious dialogue to America of this problem, and how and why this dialogue still isn't going to happen. It was not know ever meant to be a revenge movie, or a fantastical film where black people get their way. I understand that's what you wish for, but that's NEVER been our reality. Look at Christopher Dorner who was killed by a drone strike. Look at Micah Johnson, which the media was calling him Micah X Johnson (emphasis of the X) who was killed by a robotic device with a brick of C4. You really expected THIS film to show otherwise?

Anyway you cut it its not a good film, for the most part the acting was at best subpar at worst fukking terrible e.g. all the police, the plot is full of holes and nonsensical choices and elements that are never explained. Its predictable in all the worst ways. As for the bolded did we watch the same trailer? Cause this trailer makes it look like its gonna be something it clearly is not.

And whats the message this movie is supposed to be sending? Cause it clearly is not just supposed to be a mirror of the issues, its super preachy throughout and really shoulda had

popping up every other scene.

Dude, the trailer outright shows it's about him and his peoples taking over the police station and holding people hostage to hold a kangaroo court. What did you TOOK from this? And like I said, anytime you have something like this, you already should expect what's going to happen in the end. If a black man in real life raided a police station, how YOU THINK it'll end?

Now if your complaints is based on the quality of the FILM ITSELF... that is merited. But if you bytching over it not being what you HOPED for, the person to blame is you.

For me, the slap in the face was that the cop just took his job back like it was macaroni time. A man with no morals or convictions whatsoever. Nature of the Threat
