Carmen said Nas' Columbia deal was better than most artists period, rap or otherwise...so even though Illmatic didn't sell much, Nas was eating off royalties and that made him get lazy.

MC Serch said that not Carmen. And Serch never said that Nas success made him lazy. What Carmen DID say was that Nas was a bit lazy BEFORE Illmatic came out and that Faith Newman was always pestering her about trying to get Nas into the studio

In her book she actually also called him lazy. She said back in the early days the record labels would be asking Nas for songs and he would tell them he wasn’t feeling inspiration, but she thought he was just lazy and not that interested in putting in work all the time.

Isn’t there also a story that Nas was supposed to be on “Brooklyn’s Finest” and it was actually supposed to be named “NY’s Finest”?
