There's artists with no skill at all that have hit songs. You could break down the skill involved in making a storytelling song. You can't do that with a hit because whether a song is a hit has NOTHING to do with skill and EVERYTHING to do with how people respond to it. Puff Daddy has hits that somebody else wrote for him. Will Smith has hits where probably didn't even pick the beat. Artists across genres have hits that the label just handed to them. All they had to do was lay their vocals.

I didn't say that. A great storytelling song has the same qualities as any story: plot, setting, characters, etc. That is 100% dependent on the artist who wrote it. Then you factor in flow, delivery, etc. An artist could create a great storytelling song without a beat.
