1998-2000 Nas was underrated af
If you only heard I Am and Nastradamus during this period I can see why many felt he took a step back but this album proves that wasn’t the case at all. Bumping this album right now
It even had newly recorded material on it. If I'm not mistaken, these were new:
Nothing Lasts Forever
My Way
Then there's the Stillmatic outtakes:
Purple
No Idea's Original (different beat from the bonus track that appeared on the Circuit City version)
Black Zombies
Everybody's Crazy
"Doo Rags" was recorded in 2000.
Then there's the I Am outtakes:
Drunk By Myself
Poppa Was a Playa
U Gotta Love It (possibly)
Fetus (different beat)
Both My Way and Nothing Lasts Forever were supposed to be on Death of Escobar... this Mass Appeal article broke down some of the timeframes of these joints, My Way was recorded fall 99 without the hook and he did U Gotta Love It in 97: That Was an Uncanny Era: An Oral History of Nas’ ‘The Lost Tapes’
I know Illmatic is the best Nas album but the Lost Taoes is certainly my favorite. I feel every single track. Putting that album together was truly an embarrassment of riches too. There was/is a version of the tracklist from Amazon that also included:
My Worst Enemy Is Me
Your Mouth Got You In It
You Don’t Know Me
These are three of my favorite still unreleased Nas tracks. This also means that these three tracks were, at least, considered and were probably slated for the original Lost Tapes 2 that was scheduled to be released by Sony in 2004.
