Def Jam was the worse thing to happen to his career

That makes no sense.

His first three albums under def jam debuted at number ONE. Something no Nas album had accomplished since 1999. Nasir debuted at 5. His first three albums were also Grammy nominated, again something no Nas album had accomplished since 99. Hip Hop Is Dead, Untitled, and Life Is Good were also critically acclaimed. Nas got a nice little mainstream boost from his Def Jam era.

I don't think so.

I do however remember Nas complaining LA Reid didn't give him a big enough budget.

He was upset at the budget and the fact that Def Jam didn’t want to count Lost Tapes against his album deal. Technically if Lost Tapes 2 were counted as a true album then Nas’s contract with them would have been up with the release of Life Is Good

If we get The Scientist and Deja Vu (yes I have the Acetate version) in CDQ....man I’ve been waiting over 15 years for this to drop.

The music was blehhh

HHID was trash
Untitled was forgettable
Life is Good is decent.

"mainstream boost" yet all of his albums sold less than the Colombia records ones.
