Cant have a Nolan movie open up on the weekend without a Nas album dropping

This is 4th time Nas has dropped a project the same week/weekend as a Nolan film dropped

Untitled Dark Knight
Life is Good Dark Knight Rises
Kings Disease Tenent
Magic 2 Oppenheimer

It's like how Kennedy had a secretary named Lincoln and Lincoln had a secretary named Kennedy. :ohhh:

Aye that's actually kinda wild. Interstellar and Inception didn't coincide, but that's still very ironic

I'm curious for those around at the time (i was around 10 then). What was the presence of Nas' name and music from 1997 to pre Stillmatic. I find it a fascinating era about Nas and somewhat defined where he went as an artist after.

I know he was all over the Clue tapes and had work with the Firm and NORE, loads of features and then of course two albums in 1999 which sold well. But this may be a Def Jam centric thing, but on lot of podcasts and the conversations about that era focus naturally on Jay, DMX and Ja. when people talk that era Nas doesn't come up in conversations as being an era defining artist for that late 90's period (and arguably he wasn't when compared to DMX, Jay and Ja)

As someone who wasn't there, it feels like A) not being part of Dej Jam machine didn't help in that way b) Firm not taking off how it should meant, while Roc had a crew of rappers, Nas went back to being dolo

The consensus was he sold out during that period. IWW (If I ruled the world), I am (Hate Me Now) + Nastradamus (You owe Me)....

nikkas thought he was being too jiggy and kept comparing the material to Illmatic. He was still successful but the aura wasnt the same. This was when Jay thought he could end the gawd, but when Stillmatic came out and he beat Jay, it shifted the energy back to Nas bc he was clearly the underdog going against the top rapper at the time. Thats when we got the classic power 105 interview. Stillmatic was powerful not only because it was a classic album, but because he dropped it at a time when alot of nikkas thought Nas was finished.

Once we got Lost Tapes, thats when he was officially GOATED imo. the rest is history

:noah: :noah: Its really happening brehs

That's dope company. I might be the only person still fukking with LT2, still don't know what people were complaining about (perhaps bro @Ziggiy is with me on that one).

I love Lost Tapes 2

Its not a classic like LT1 but

No Bad Energy
Vernon Family
Lost Freestyle
Tanasia
Adult Film
War Against Love
The Art Of It
Highly Favored
It Never Ends
You Mean The World To Me
Queensbridge Politics
Beautiful Life

Are all excellent. Thats 12 tracks out of 16, which is the same number of tracks on Lost Tapes 1. I even like to listen to Jareau Of Rap in the context of the album.
