Man I need to hear that song out somewhere. Did you hear how it was ringing off at the listening party?

I’m telling you. That song is giving me 30 vibes. Like him performing and the crowd going crazy. I first really felt it in the whip driving… now I’m seeing these clips and it feels like the same way 30 hit me or seeing him perform 30.

Yep. Everyone is saying the same thing, over and over and over again. Yet somehow theres still dudes in denial

You can’t have classic albums with no SOUL. No personal shyt. That’s what’s missing. Hit does not bring it out of him. Hit mirrors the dudes of his era (some in these threads) that DON’T want that, call it ‘sleep inducing’. Ie, how many times in these 5 albums hs Nas mentioend his son?? :jbhmm: I mean I’d expect a whole song but I can’t even recall a mention. The production doesn’t evoke it.

So that’s what a ‘missing’ is you can almsot feel Hit/Nas are scared to have a slow/somber music. Case in point look how Hit ends the albums. Usually the last song is the super personal track the slow/somber track. This ngga ends it with Nas and 21 Savage. :heh: KD 1 it’s Spicy. He/they scared new age fans will call it boring. Nas didn’t become possible goat bc of his shyt talking. 5 albums of Nas talkin fly is not stickin to the ribs

In all my life Ive never seen a rapper criticized for not mentioning their kid on wax..

Yea you have. If you’re not being obtuse, yea you have. It’s not just literally his kid it’s his personal life, emotion, etc.

Destiny, Daughters, War, Dance, poppa was a playa, made a whole album about his divorce …but you wanna play dumb ‘why would he mention his son’ :aicmon:

It’s symbolic of what’s ‘missing’ on these 5 albums. That family shyt, HIS life not just generalities. So that’s a missing component. Any real Nas fan would be able to acknowledge that and not just get defensive :childplease:

Except for MAGIC, the KD albums are mad personal - just because he doesn't talk about his son a lot doesn't make it otherwise.

KD1 has like 3 songs about his (failed) relationships.

"Pops here, mom gone - wish God reversed the roles, sometimes" --> it doesn't get more personal than this.

Car 85 gives us a direct glimpse into his past. 10 Points is about his wealth but it's his personal view. Ultra Black is personal.

KDII PRESSURE is mad personal, DRE is mad personal, Moments, Nobody, No Phony Love, Brunch, Bible and Nas is Good are all personal songs.

KD3: Thun, Reminisce, Serious Interlude, Once a Man..., First Time and Don't Shoot are all personal songs.

Picking something specific like his son is a bit arbitrary, especially because we all know that there's drama with Kelis everytime Nas mentions Knight anywhere.

Nas used to be one of the most mysterious rappers in the game, until like...Lost Tapes and Gods Son where, and that's why he picked that album cover, he really opened up for the first time. Except for Lost Tapes, GS, Life is Good and maybe Untitled he really doesn't have albums more personal than the KD albums.

The 36 Chambers
I’ve listened to it enough now, obviously some joints I might look at a different perspective in the near future but this album is a 3.5/5 for me.

It’s not even that this joint has weak songs but the highs aren’t really on the same level as their previous releases.

:yeshrug:

Or maybe I’m suffering from Nas/Hit Boy fatigue & need leave this joint for a while & revisit it in a few months or so :jbhmm:

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
Good post. The top Spotify streaming tracks from KD era are

One Mic One Gun 28 million
Spicy 28 million
Wave Gods 24 million
Replace Me 19 million
Rare 18 million
EPMD 2 17 million
Nobody 16 million

So the answer should be obvious, working with younger artists and well-known vets is effective if pumping up streaming stats is the goal. I still question how much Nas care about all that, it seem like he mostly enjoying the ability to create and release music without the previous barriers. Especially the last 3 albums with minimal guests and promo

Think the cost of a Drake or Kendrick appearance probably don't make sense. But one thing Nas could easily do is hop on tracks on some of these younger artists tracks. He been a free agent for years, no reason he couldn't hop on a song on Kendrick or Cole's album, or do a joint with Drake and Ross for a DJ Khaled album
Kendrick and Drake aren’t charging Nas for a feature. lol. Same way Nas ain’t charging for features. Or Jay. nikkas in that bracket do what they wanna do. They are worth too much to charge.

Quality post bro, I can't disagree with anything you said and I think you right about what's missing.
